i believe now beggars come to my city because someone who managed them and make this thing become a great business...you can imagine if one beggars can collect some money (IDR 16k, maybe if it was converted become 2 dollars a day), can you imagine how much they get every month, 60 dollar =480k)..it`s fantastics..
you only do a simply things, make your hand ask some money for a people in the street especially crowded street, and make they are sad with your condition..
oh My god..i think my local government must do something..this is not fair...
Life is cruel, yes,..but it doesn`t mean we should make our self like that, ask for kindness for people, ask their money in the street....
what about your city my friend

Many of the beggars refuse to work because they feel they earn more money begging without any effort than working. When I was running a restaurant a few years ago I had offered a job to a young beggar in the restaurant for washing vessels. The salary that he asked me was more than what a Manager in any restaurant would get. He said what is the use of working when we can earn much more without working. After that I have stopped feeling sorry for these beggars.

yes, i think the problem beggar is complicated..
in one things, many people want to become beggar because they had no choice..where their skills is not enough for getting a good job
but sometimes, there are lazy people who doesnt want to work hard for earning some money and they think that become beggar can make easy money for them, without working hard

Beggars live many times better as people. Many people from my country go abroad to beg, and they do around 2500 euros a month, which only a few people make in my country, not even top managers.
I never give them money, as I know that they are capable to work but are too lazy to do so. And begging is prohibited by law, so if I give beggars money, I can be arrested too. There are cases when decent people need our help, like a surgery or a special need, then it is okay and the authorities allow them to do so.

wow..i think my country or my local government must take the regulation like that...if we give some money for beggar, we can be arrested for it..
sometimes it`s weird for my country culture, because we use eastern way for see something...but i do hope with the "weird" rule, the beggar must understand that their profession is prohibited in law eyes..

It is a thing that the law prohibits begging, but they cannot eradicate it. The people who are poor and don't like to work will continue to beg, no matter the laws. The answer is not give them anything and they will move on.

Today, as i ride the jeepney and it stopped, a big and small boy suddenly came up. The other one was with a homemade drum and the little boy have some envelopes in his hand. I know they are beggars and they are becoming plenty again because Christmas is already coming.
The passengers including me , refused the envelopes. The driver gave a peso to the big boy for them to alight. It's a good thing they did.
Such are ways of beggars again in our city, now that Christmas is nearing. They do this to every jeepney that stops for passengers.

Actually, we should not be giving to those beggars. Because if we always will give them alms, others who see will have the courage to beg too, so they proliferate.
I think what the government can do is to catch all of them and give it to the social welfare, who will teach them livelihood programs. Those kids , should also be caught and be disciplined.

Hello adhyz82 :)
Ooh i hate beggars... My friend lost her bag couple weeks ago when she went home after work with her friend using a motorcycle, and she sat on the back.. Suddenly there are 2 beggars in 1 motorcycle, and 1 of the beggars pulled my friend’s bag and then runaway to the other street with full speed.. My friend said that she almost fall from the motorcycle when the beggar steal her bag.. She lost her bag with all her stuffs and her important cards.. Grrrr I hope that someday the beggars go into the jail for a long time..!

Hi adhyz: Here in my town we have this same problem and as you mentioned, I really think this is a business for some people. The worst part is when some of them get violent when you don't give them some money. I'm worried about my city and how we can control this situation.

Yes, that's why begging is illegal in singapore. One can be caught when they are being reported or seen. Basking in public without licence is a crime too and those caught can be either jailed or fined. IT's good that singapore has strict laws governing the country to avoid those scenarios happening over in Indonesia. Most beggars belong to certain syndicates and that's how they earn. I've seen worst in Thailand with babies used as bait.

My place of work is situated in the North of Lombok and is very crowded with tourist. Many beggars came across the strait to my place of work and ask money for charity. We did not know if the money they had asked was for the real charity or not. I was just wondering why they came here everyday. They are mostly half age woman.

Maybe, We are as tour operator, hotel operator or restaurant owner not mind if asked money for the sake of charity. They mentioned that their activities on behalf of orphanage but the fact the money is for themselves.
I thought that the local government should take a step to handle the beggars.

Yes there are so many beggars in my city too. But I think in my small city these kids are beggars because they're poor having parents without job and sleeps on the sidewalk only. I don't think they are handled/managed by some people.
But if I go to the big city, then I will really have a doubt. I guess some people have been managing them as well to beg for money.

We have tons and tons of beggars in the street! I feel pity towards them but I try my best not to give them money. Why? Because they should be earning them, not asking them. The more people give these people what they need, the less likely they will leave the city and do something else to make a living. Beggars quickly become dependent, relying on money people give them.
I've encountered some nasty beggars in my life. Some complain when they are not given enough money. Some dance on the street using some cans as some percussion instrument. Some of them climb on to public vehicles and rap poorly then ask the passengers for money. It's annoying, yet sad.

In my city there are a lot two. hey come in any ages. The children are the worst. You actually think that they can't do you harm but they definitely can. Once the cab stopped in an intersection they will knock on the window and when you open it, they will grab whatever they can grab. I wish the social service dept. will do something about it.

Hi ...
Do you know in major cities where its a broad business maintained by some brokers. The beggars dont get all the money that they earn, some percentage of their earnings go to brokers and to some extend high leveled citizens too. If you know Hindi, they i can recommend a movie titled "traffic signal"
Have a nice time.
