This seems to be quite a common malware which affects USB drives but can also affect hard disks.
I find a number of solutions by searching but the important thing is to detect and remove the virus/malware as well as to cure the problem.
This was the most complete and best description of the process I could find: http://www.anysoftwaretools.com/how-to/fix-file-folder-shortcut.html
Instead of the Spyware Doctor with Antivirus recommended in the article, you might like to try Malwarebytes, which is free: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

I'm afraid that I can't suggest anything further except:
1) Start the PC in Safe mode and go through the process again
2) You said, above, that your Antivirus detected the virus but couldn't remove it. Did it give it a name? If so, search for a solution to the problem by the name of the virus. You don't say which AV you are using. Try installing Avast and run a full scan in Scheduled mode (which does a full scan before Windows starts). If it detects and clears the virus, you may have to go through the procedure of changing the attributes again because the AV program may get rid of the virus but it won't change the attributes of the folders back to normal.
3) If none of the above works, reformat your hard disk and reinstall Windows. Once you have done this, DO NOT attach any external drives (USB Flash drives, &c) until you have installed a reliable and up-to-date copy of an Antivirus program (I recommend Avast, which is free). Then make sure that you run a full scan on any flash drives or other peripherals before you open them in Explorer.
If you don't feel confident about reformatting the drive and reinstalling Windows, get the help of a professional.

Format the hard disk is one of the best way to remove the virus. I would suggest you to backup all the data in the DVDs in the future. Never trust on CDS or DVDS that contains free stuff. Most virus comes to the computer through the different free stuffs that one download from the various internet sites.
