i guess it depends on what i am doing. if i am walking around i rely on a flashlight casue its safer. but if im just sitting around waiting for lights to turn back on i use a candle. but if the lights are not out and im in a dark place looking for something i use a flashlight.

That's just what I was thinking! The one I use depends on what I'm doing at the time.

Hi Deeanna
, thanks for this discussion, let me share my experience.
Last year due to heavy rain and flood, we didn't had power for 3 days, the battery of emergency lights got discharged in few hours, stock of candles too, fortunately i had 2 lanterns and one petromax light that run on kerosene

I guess you mean if there is a blackout? I'd use candles if I'm sitting in a room. If I'm going to be walking from one room to another, then I'd use a flashlight, just in case I were to drop the light source or get close to something potentially flammable.
