we from childhood learn this ,early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy and wealthy. How many of us really follow this, and are they any who are wealthy because of following this .Now adays night comes when it is 12 mid night and morning comes when we get up.It is not that the sun makes us feel the morning it is we who decide when to get up and when to sleep ,as the life style had changed a lot .

Hello Umabharti! Yes, I agree on you. I also learned from childhood that "early bird catches worm". But my father is an early man and I can see that he is very successful..I think it's not really the sun which was the base of success but the character or attitude.Early to bed really makes us healthy in a way that cells repairs earlier and early to rise gives us more time to do what we ought to accomplish. But I think it is our attitude that really makes us successful and healthy person.

I agree with you, the earliest that you wake up the more hours of daylight you will have in your day. People that wake up early can do so many things until midday and then they can enjoy the rest of their day. I belong in the category of people that sleep late and cannot wake up in the morning. Either I will stay at bed and loose my day, or I will feel sleepy all day. This is definitely not healthy and I believe that having an organisation in your everyday sleeping routine is an advantage.

hi it is not that we are not in an organised way of living ,it is the global change that has made human to change the life style and the timings as per ones wish. Now we can say that work when there is work, sleep when ur tired, eat when ur hungry this can make a person healthy and wealthy. We can not follow the old things these days as per our living situations. The jobs,The works and the stress. We can not say no no we have to follow the old thing early to bed and early to rise,as things had changed and we sshould change our selves accordingly.

Hello! The way of living where you work when there is work and sleep when you are tired doesn't look so healthy to me. I believe that nothing can give you a better rest than a good night sleep for example. If you sleep every day at the same hour and have a full 7 hrs sleep, the next day you will be more productive to your work and you will be able to think better. The human metabolism is also benefited from a stable program in sleeping and eating hours. This would be the best thing to do for your health, but with stress and the demanding job hours can we follow it? I am one of the people that don't follow this way of living but I wish I would be able to have a stable program and sleep early/wake up early.

when there is not work then what will anyone do ? when the person is not feeling sleepy what will that person do.Can we force something ,we cannot force. A good night sleep is a best rest ,every one are aware of this, but each ones lifestyle is different,so one likes getting up early but the other may not due to his or her own reasons.

Yes I agree that it is healthy. I just doubt about the word wealthy. People nowadays have different lifestyle. Some have work that requires more over time and different shifts. Some even have insomnia problems. Even if these people wanted to apply the phrase "Early to bed, early to rise" they just can't because of such things. But as long as we're healthy, it's all that matters.

yes my friend ,days are changing the work place is changing and the life style is having a change. We should go with the flow and we can not hung by some thing. The shifts can not be going by our own ways we should go by them. So should eat and sleep when we have the time for that. Have a nice time.

i never said that we should skip our meal, because sometimes if we sleep empty stomach we do not feel deep sleep we do feel restless. And some times if we do not eat anything we sleep so long that it is hard to wake us up again. So never skip a meal ,just eat when ur really hungry. And sleep when you get a sleep.

early means when the sun first rays enter the earth, that is early ,when the birds start chirping and start flying in the sky towards the rising sun to fetch food. early to bed means when the birds finish off their fetching of food and return to their homes and settle down on the trees. When the last ray of the sun sheds in the west ,this is the time to go to bed.

My parents, my parents in law, all practice this. And they are very healthy. Your body need a rest, and wake up early in the morning will expose the body to fresh air, before we do every thing. So for healthy, there is a lot of fact. Wealthy? not always. But if some shop opens earlier than other, then most likely it will get more customer. But in the business, you need right time and right place. Not too early nor too late.

See i am not telling about the older generations. They do follow this as now their life style can follow the early to bed and early to rise concept. The generation now can not follow it.As the world is completely changing and new things are coming around us ,the job works are different ,the life style is different ,we can not folloow the old thing these days. See once anyone can maintain the healthy way of living automatically there is wealth with them. Right time and right place to the right person is needed. Have a nice time.

Sleeping early is very good for the health. It helps children grow. It also keeps the heart healthy and reduces stress. Sleep can also bolster your memory and helps you lose weight. nice thanks for the site , and the information.Does sleep helps loose weight. It is said eat and sleep then u put on weight. Now i am listening a new thing that sleep makes us loose the weight. i agree that sleep can make us fresh up and stress free only for a while to forget everything. It is not a permanent solution for the stress and tensions. It is needed only for helping the body to get energy back.

You're welcome. The lack of sleep impacts the balance of the hormones in the body that affects the appetite. The hormones ghrelin and leptin important for the regulation of the appetite have been found to be disrupted by lack of sleep.A good night sleep may also reduce the risk of having cancer.

I also heard of this habit for quite a long time. I think this is a healthy habit. As the night life will make your biological clock to be messy. And it is harmful for your health. It is better to follow this rule to get up early and go to bed early. I love China

hello umabharti, I think early to bed and early to rise both do good to our health. The human is a part of the nature and everything in nature should follow the principle of it .Nowadays so many young people stay up or sleep too late in the night. Maybe this will ruin their health. We learn from our ancestor that early to bed our body can renew adequately and early to rise you will have more time than others. So i prefer to do that ,but actually i like to linger in my bed on weekends~

Yes because in the home there are jobs which are to be finished off ,until everyone finishes their jobs the house hold women will had to wait. Then she settles down after everyone has finished. Its hard for a lady who looks after the home to say that i follow this and i follow that.Because she has to compromise and adjust on many things. A working women has lots of things to balance,Its hard for her .If she does not sleep early then she gets late for her job as she can not get up early. It is healthy if we follow some things but its not that easy in todays lifestyle. Have a nice time.

I don't follow this in particular. i sleep at around 12 midnight and wakeup 7 in the morning. I find that doing that is actually making me more allert the whole day than sleeping early and waking up early. Once I overslept, my stamina easily gets drain and will make me tired before the end of the day. This is also a case to case basis. If I am too tired, I sleep earlier.

over sleep will never drain stamina ,it makes one drowsy and sick. until your not feelign any bad from the way your living it is said that your going in a right way. many sleep at 12 or 1 but do get up at 6 and around 7 ,may be in the after noon they get a nap some tiems.Due to the busy schedules and stress ful life the timings also do have a chnage. It is said that even tensions can make a person not to sleep proper.

i guess its also a matter of perspective and personality.its not the sleeping/waking up per se that helps a person towards his/her road to riches, more like, being disciplined enough to set and maintain a meaningful schedule. i mean, one can sleep early, wake up early but then proceed to do nothing the rest of the day, and doing this would hardly land anyone success in careers or money making (unless he/she is sitting on trust fund gaining interest perhaps? lol). on another note and as the others pointed out, there is the matter of health issues. maintaining a good circadian rhythm (the "physical, mental, behavioral changes that follow a 24-hour cycle, responding to the light and darkness in an organism's environment", www.nigms.nih.gov; boy am i being nerdy today haha) does lead to better moods and mental state. maybe thats why im grouchy at times? since im more of the early to bed (as in 8 am of the next day bed time) early to rise (wake up call at 2 or 3 pm the same day) type of person :P

See the world is with different types of people with different mentality. We can not bring the whole world under one roof.Every one have their own way of living. It is not important how the governments make the rules or the scientists make the rules. It is how the people follow them.According to that the rules are altered. We are not made after the rules. The rules are made after us. May be some like the early wakeup and early bed time. Some may not feel that way. They like working in the night and sleeping in the day. Every one has freedom, they like living as they are.

I think that I get up early and go to bed early, and that seems to work out well with me. If I go to bed too late, for some reason, I have a troubled sleep. When I wake up too late, it takes me a lot longer to get completely woken up during the day. So I think that there is just really something to this saying, about being early to bed and early to rise that works out at least for me. Of course, there are just many times where I think that it's just because I'm on a fixed sleep schedule. A sleep schedule that allows me to really function the best. It has been something that has been ingrained in me for years and years and it has stuck and it will continue to stick more often than not. That's just the way the ball bounces.

so you are following right time to sleep and right time to wakeup. That sounds good. When every thing goes same then its okay ,But some times there is some difference which can make the routine become some what to have a change. That time the trouble arrives. At least some one is there that the quote does work for them. May be your life style is havinga good time schedule that it is not worrying u alot. And your able to function everything the best. If this is going for years and years then no one can change it unles some thing big happens in ur life. Have a nice time.

hi for six months i was doingthis early to bed and early to rise because i was having a job from 9 -6 and i was either getting up at six cooking and getting ready and going to ofc come back at seven and then either cook or eat what my granny had cooked and sleep off at ten , it was a good life. Now i came back to my home and now i am following that only but quite different i eat my dinner at ten and sleep at eleven and get up at seven and brkfast at nine or ten, cook for lunch and have it at two or three , so the time changes a lot and we get used to the things which happen in our day to day life.

This is a point that has been in my mind for quite some time. yes. when we were children our parents use to insist our sleeping at 8 pm and get up at 6 am next day morning. that way we use to have 9+ hours sleep. But nowadays we sleep around 11 pm and get up at 6 am. that means number of hours we sleep has come down. Lack of sleep is one of the problems for many of our diseases. Nowadays I try to sleep around 10 pm and get up at 6 am. Early to bed to early to rise is really correct and should be followed by all of us.

hi ravisivan unless we are that much tired for the day we do not get sleep early ,unless we sleep early we can not get up early. Howver if we make a habit of getting up early by any means and not sleeping for the whole day then we can get sleep early. But some times the whole day will be such a day that we feel like drowsy and sleepy and not interested towards anything .Just wish to get a nap because we can not control the sleep and its hard to control it. Making a habit is good ,but those who follow their own way of living and own timings is also a good thing.Because some times we can not follow the rules which we ourself make it . We should be flexible ,if not we will be under trouble.

to listen when we are young and their parents go to bed when told. but while we grow and change it a lot. then we simply decide themselves when to go to bed and when it happens. but certainly as a man in his early bed rest more and more awake in the morning. I speak so because I feel so. nice day!

yes kids do listen well, because they do not have that individuality at that age. They are not having that strength to say no to the elders or parent, but as the time passes on each one has his or her own way and views no one can implement others rules on some one and say to follow. If there is work whole day then we get nice and good sleep for the whole night. But if there is a slight time we take a nap in the afternoon. The nap in the afternoon makes us not to sleep in the night so as we do not sleep in the night at early hours we do not get up early in the mornings. So like this there is fluctuation in the life style.Have nice time.

What is healthy depends on your own bio-ritmen. People are different, have different life-ritmen and the best thing is to live/eat/sleep by your own ritme. Only problem is that society won't let us. They invented time and tell us what to do when.

yes my friend ,the rules are made to make us unhealthy, just worrying about the rules will make a healthy person sick. So should always listen to ones own self and inner clock which says us what to do and what not to do. When we are at certain age we do not need some one to tell what is to be done ,we know what to do. Society is nothing but its people around us.We should live our life as per our wish not for some one else. And we shoudl take care that we are not entering someone elses personal life style also. Then we are happy and they also are happy.
