I have recently discovered Greek style yogurt. Now, there are several brands but the two that I have found to be the best are the Greek Gods brand and Zoi. These have become my decadence without guilt. I mean, like, anything that tastes that good can't be good for you, right? Thick, rich and creamy. My daughter even likes it! Our favorite flavor is the honey flavor. I have always eaten yogurt for my digestive health and I do like regular yogurt. For a while I was hooked on Brown Cow's maple flavored yogurt but even with Brown Cow's cream top, it is nothing compared to this Greek heaven. We even prefer this stuff to LaCreme, if you can imagine. Now, the Greek style yogurt is more expensive so we don't eat it as often as the cheap stuff but one taste and you might just agree that it is worth it. Coincidentally, it was the Greek yogurt that they recommended in my diabetes class. Hmmm.... So...have you tried the Greek style yogurt yet? What is your favorite yogurt? Or do you not like yogurt? Even if you don't like yogurt, you might want to try this stuff. My daughter stopped liking yogurt and she loves this stuff so you might just like it. lol...like the old Alka Seltzer commercial used to say..."Try it! You'll Like it!"

hi dear alaskanray, I love yoghurt and always have loved it. When I was not yet diabetic I ate strawberry yoghurt, and looooots of that stuff. But now as a diabetic I like plain yoghurt much more and enjoy it as a snack. We have one brand of Greek yoghurt here and its really good, but I prefer the Turkish Yoghurt to it. It comes in two varieties here, either with 3,5 percent fat or 10 percent fat and the 3,5 tastes heavenly plus I dont have gall bladder problems cause of fat cntents so here I go, munching away on that Turkish stuff. LOL.

Interesting. I had not heard of the Turkish yogurt. You really like it better than the Greek? Does it taste similar? I'll have to look for it once I get moved. (moving this week)

dear alaskanray, moving, you poor soul, hope its for the better...... The 10 percent fat Turkish stuff tastes like natural Greek Yoghurt. I dont know the one with honey in it or with honey and almonds, as I dont dare eat that cause of diabetes. But the Turkish is a delicacy and better than the local brands.

Oh, yeah, that Greek Gods honey flavor is inspired! I can't eat the cheap stuff because they add food starch (read "corn starch") but so far all the Greek style yogurts have been safe - There's some yummy chocolate ones too!

Once I discovered greek yogurt a few yrs ago I never went back to the regular stuff. I like the thicker texture of the greek, and higher protien content.

Yes, yogurt is very good for you, especially if the cultures are active. Most of the yogurt here in the US is pretty so-so but the Greek style is reputed to be the best for you and for it to taste so heavenly on top of that is icing on the cake so to speak! My daughter laughs at me while I'm eating it because I am groaning in ecstasy.

I can't say I love yogurts but the Greek yogurt is something I could eat till I'm full. yum! I eat regular yogurt too sometimes because I know it's healthy, but I have to mix it with some fruit pulp or jam, otherwise I can't really stand the texture. For me Greek yogurt tastes much better :)

I know what you mean. The Greek yogurt isn't like yogurt at all but more like a thick, rich, creamy dessert. Yum!

I am not a fan of yogurt but I am greek and by comparing the greek style yogurt with others, i found it had better taste. I have never heard of those brands though, I know that "Total" is an authentic greek brand that you can find abroad. The original yogurt shouldn't say yogurt dessert on it because this means that it's made from powdered milk, while the real yogurt should be produced from fresh milk. You can also find a recipe for tzatziki, which is basically yogurt with cucumber and garlic, if you want to make a spicy side plate made of your favourite yogurt.

Isn't tzatziki what they put on gyros? I love Greek food!

What's not to love? I fell in love with Greek food when I was living in Salt Lake City. My friend took me to the Greek Festival there and, while I don't remember much about it, I definitely remember the food! It was heavenly!

yes! it is also served as a side plate with meat or chips but the taste is strong and the smell of garlic is intense sometimes. I am happy you like it! :))

I love yogurt! But, I haven't rally had the greek yogurt yet. I have seen that Rachel Ray uses it in a lot of her recipes. My mother got turned on to it too. She eats it everyday for lunch with nuts or fruit. She loves the Chobani brand the best. (I've seen it on sale for at the grocery store 10 for $10.00) She likes the greek because it has more protein, and less calories than regular yogurt. She recently found the generic brand at her grocery store that she likes better than voskos. Her only issue with the new generic store brand is that it has a little less calcium. But, all in all, the benefits of greek yougurt is awesome. (Me, I'll get ehat ever is on sale! :- )

Yes, I usually have only gotten whatever was least expensive but once I tried the Greek yogurt, I was hooked. lol...and so is my daughter! It is so rarely that I can get her to eat anything healthy, I'm thrilled when I find something she will eat.

I was never a fan of yogurt. I wish I did like yogurt though since its good for diet, weightloss and ect. I actually will randomly buy some on occasion thinking that I will actually like the yogurt that time around but nope never works. Does the greek style yogurt taste different? Is it a different texture?

The Greek style yogurt is more like a thick creamy pudding. It's almost a mousse, it's so thick and creamy. And it does taste very different than any other style I've tried. It's so rich, though, that if I eat too much I do get a little ill. The different brands also taste differently. I tried the Dannon Greek and did not like it but everyone is different and has different tastes. If you like cheesecake, or mousse, or ice cream or pudding, the Greek style yogurt is kind of like a combination of all of those. Try it and let me know what you think. This stuff tastes absolutely decadent. Too bad more decadent stuff can't be as good for you as this stuff is.
