All that glitters is not gold

But this glitter is even better! Attached is a photo I just took that does not do justice to the beauty outside my window. At this time of year I look out and marvel at the golden leaves that are still clinging to the tree. The sun makes them sparkle as the breeze tries to blow them off the branches and it looks for all the world like God has given me a tree of gold.
Look around you and see all the beauty. These are some of our true riches. I'll never forget the memory of this--I could buy gold and lose it in a moment but I will always hold this particular gold in my heart and be able to see it glitter and smell the crisp autumn air.
Have you seen anything today that astounds you with its beauty? Do you feel wealthy because of it?

Hi Dragon54u,
I love the diamonds in the sky at night on a clear night. When the stars are not blotted out by the cloudy blanket. It's been awhile since I have just sat outside and enjoyed looking up into the purple sky with diamonds. I also love how the sun reflects off the dew drops in the grass in the morning. Yes.. I do pay attention to God and His 'paint brush'.. I wrote a poem about it one day a couple of years back.

I like to sit outside at night, even for a moment, to look at the majesty of the heavens--nothing puts me in my place like that! You mentioned the dew on the grass, I love that. The drops of rain on the leaves that glimmer in the sunshine afterward, the shine and sparkle of frost as the sun rises--what beauty we have been given! It's a shame so many people don't take the time to appreciate these gifts. I used to be an atheist in my youth before all the beauty of nature and some fortuitous life events proved me wrong. Looking at all the loveliness around us, I marvel at my former willful ignorance.

Here is the poem I wrote a couple of years ago:
God's Paint Brush
The colors of the rainbow
Prismed through the drops of rain,
Starlight adorned the spruce's bow;
I stand in awe admiring the show.
God and his paintbrush at work again,
Starstruck diamonds wink and blink;
In velvet sky, the moonbeams dance,
Bejewelled limbs sequined rain.
I sit by my window to take it in,
God painted this portrait just for me;
His love reflected in His tears,
His Saving Grace lives within.

I totally understand what you are saying...From the pic, I can see the beauty in the golden leaves!!! My Dad had a beautiful Maple tree that turned a fiery orange every year at the beginning of fall. Where he lived, the setting sun shone brightly through that tree every afternoon & the bright orange lit up the walls of his bedroom as if it were on fire. Much like your tree, you had to see it to believe the beauty!!! I tried every year to capture the beauty of the sunset & the tree. Alas, the beauty was lost somewhere between my eyes & the lens of the camera. I think both our problems were/are that the tree is way too close to the window in order to get the panoramic view needed to capture the total beauty of the trees!!! I know with Dad's tree...if I took the pic from a different angle where I could capture the entire tree, I lost the benefit of the sun lighting up the leaves. There was only one angle where the natural beauty shone through & it was impossible to capture a decent pic from that angle!!! Alas, Dad lost his mind somewhere along the way & cut down that gorgeous tree...so my mind is the ONLY place that it now lives. My best suggestion is to not worry about capturing the beauty of your tree with a camera in your hand. Spend that time soaking in the beauty with your mind's eye. That way you will enjoy that tree EVERY fall for the rest of your life!!!

I'm glad to see someone understands how beauty is lost in the camera lens--it just isn't the human eye! So sorry you lost that maple, they are among the most lovely trees on earth at any season.
The eyes have the advantage of storing that image away where we can access it at any time, whereas camera images can be lost. Memory is a wonderful gift and something no one can re-possess or steal from us.

You are so right about the camera. When I stand at a certain overlook, the mountains seem to go on forever in all directions. It is awesome. But no still camera can capture the seeming infinity of that view -- only one tiny slice of it.

I forgot to attach it! I was so caught up in describing the leaves that I forgot the photo. I put it in the first reply if you'd like to see it. The world is full of beauty.

Hi Dragon54u, I love nature, and I think even a single blade of leaf is beautiful.
Now that I have learnt that so many flowers are edible, I have a new appreciation for nature.
I think we are really too remote from nature.
If we have a chance to learn about all the healing properties of plants, then we might love nature even more.
Just too bad that animals instinctively know what are edible, and what are not edible, and human is the only one to limit ourselves to a few items.

Our early pioneers here watched the animals to determine which plants were safe to eat and for the most part the animals were good guides. There are a few plants safe for them and not for us but if you're ever in doubt, watch the animals. I believe we could also get all the medicine we need for every possible disease if we would focus on plants and try to preserve the world instead of trying to conquer it.

Hi Dragon54u, I read somewhere that there is a rather easy method to determine whether the leaves or roots or fruits can be eaten.
The article says about cutting open the fruits, or leaves, and then rub against your skin.
If the skin is allergic to it, then that will cause bad reactions if we eat it.
If the skin does not have adverse reaction, then it is safe to eat.

So where's the photo, my friend?
Anyway, just imagining what you were just describing gave me a vivid picture of what you saw there. Indeed, not all that glitters is gold. The sun that kissed the golden leaves gave a shimmering reflection to the leaves. Wow, it's a marvelous sight indeed.
For me, everyday as i wait to stand by the road for a jeepney to ride to my office, i always see Mayon Volcano at its morning splendor. Though it doesn't glitter, it stands so beautifully. And it is at its most beautiful sight at night, during those times that it erupts , with the lavas flowing down, seemingly like rubies rolling .
What a beautiful, glittering sight too but dangerous.

I'm sorry, I forgot to attach it and put it under the first reply. I get so caught up in things like this that I forget to post what I'm talking about!
I just looked at picture of Mayon Volcano and it is, indeed, awe inspiring. What a frighteningly beautiful miracle! It nourishes the soil but is deadly. Its eruptions, when they come, must be as beautiful as they are terrifying. Our Creator gave us so much beauty, we must take at least a minute each day to look at it or we are missing the best of life.

Yes, just looking at those wonderful sights, is enough to give us tranquility . We should always be thankful to God for giving us these wonderful things to admire.

This is not so much a discussion as lyric poetry. It just so happened that we call autumn golden autumn here from ancient times.I like both golden leaves and red leaves,at this time of year I am always lost in admiration of the autumn scenery. When it comes to the golden leaves,I fist think of the ginkgo Which is Jurassic relict. The leaves look like countless small golden fans.

There was a ginko tree in a town I lived in as a child and it fascinated me. The shape of the leaves was so unusual and when autumn came and the tree shone with the color of honey I visited it often.
I am blessed to be in an area with trees of all kinds and thus my autumn is a riot of color, motion and the indescribable sound of leaves sailing, skittering, rattling and rustling.

I'm glad the photo shared at least some of it. What you can't see there is the breeze blowing the leaves, turning them this way and that in the sun that causes them to glint and shine more beautifully than gold. It is just indescribable.

Hi dragon 54u,
When I was in Bali once, I witnessed this beautiful and amazing sunset. It was simply astonishing and very colorful indeed. What a breathtaking moment and it left me with a great feeling.
I realized how wonderful mother nature is and how lucky I am to be alive. You are right. It doesn't have to be a gold to glitter. Cherishable memories are far more valuable than any gold or diamond.

Material goods can be lost but the memory of a gorgeous sunset or autumn leaves will always remain, away from greedy hands. Our true treasure is all around us but most of us refuse to see.

Yes, it is God's world and we are but tenants. We should treat it better and seek to live with it instead of dominating it. But again, it comes back to greed--that will be our downfall. In the meantime people like you and me can appreciate God's gifts to us.

Actually it is the beauty of our nature. It is the fall season, and I enjoy seeing those leaves turning red, yellow, and other color. I love the sight of it at the parking lot. I usually take a nap during lunch time, and I would enjoy the scene first. Then I would fall asleep.

dragon54u I have often marveled at the beauty of naure...I am in awe of God's creations and realize no man could dupicate the beauty. I have seen the most awesome sunsets that convinces me no painter could do justitice to God's work. I often feel the same about scenes in pine forests, lakes, etc. and many various nature spots..

You are right, man cannot ever duplicate what God has created no matter how hard we try. I love your avatar, the heavens are another creation that will always fill me with awe. The order and beauty of it is unbelievable.
I find beauty every day to thank Him for.

Thank you I love the stars..I will never forget camping in the mountains..I had never seen the Big Dipper look so big and so close it seemed we could reach up and touch it..
You are wise to appreciate nature..so many hurry past all the beauty and never stop and notice and they miss so very much.

Yes, God created such vibrant colors that can't be completely captured by camera or artist. If I am ever in doubt of how my life will go or if I feel insecure I merely glance outside at all He's given us and I am comforted. Only One who loves intensely would create such a world.

That golden tree is beautiful. Sometimes I just need peace and golden leaves like that in that moment worth more than real gold. The sunsets are really beautiful where I live, the sky is lovely pink or purple almost every evening, and I don't think I ave seen sunsets like this until this year. It's just good to stop sometimes and admire His creation.

Sunsets are awesome and I mean that in every sense of the word. People use "awesome" so casually these days but it sometimes isn't strong enough for the beauty of a sunset. Just as our mothers told us bedtime stories and tucked us in, the sunset is God's bedtime treat to us, a last daily glimpse of the incredible beauty of this world that He put us on. Then the real show begins when the stars appear in the night sky, another reason to stand in true awe of His artistry and creativity.

Oh, don't decorate yet! Let the anticipation build and make yourself wait then it will be even more fun. That's what I hate about people pushing the season as they do, it dilutes it so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the photo, it's doesn't really capture the beauty of the tree but it at least gives you an idea.

It is a shame, I have not really taken the time to look around yet today outside. The trees are still beautifully colored, I noticed that last night. I enjoy the creativity of people wh0 do crafts, and it brings me a lot of joy to see what they make.

I only went out after 5 today because I was feeling pretty punk - guess its a good thing I didn't have to go to work... but if I had, I probably would've gone to bed earlier...
Still, by the time I went out, it was nearly dark and the evening was very overcast... guess the trees are going to lose their flowers...

One of the few things I hate about winter is the time change, causing it to get dark so much earlier. Still, that's more hours of starlight to enjoy on clear nights!

hi dragon54u yes Jacaranda trees. in tustin where i used to live the street which the civic center is located, Centennial st. is line with Jacaranda tree. they bloom in March and create a purple have all over the trees and the whole street is just gorgeous. the small purple bells also have a fragrance thats just lovely. Nature can be so beautiful. here in front of Gold Crest we have some roses in bloom that are spectacular and two jacarandas trees Here we seldom see trees that turn all those vivid colors in the fall. I do miss that as I was born in South Dakota. Here in 'California we do have some other natural beauties though Wild California poppies like gold under the sun bloom in wild lands along the highways.gorgeous sight. Also we have vining night blooming Jasmine thats a pretty sight and even more
lovely is that sweet Jasmine fragrance. Also I marvel every time I go down to Newport beach at the mighty Pacific ocean as it roars its way into shore, and sparkles under the sun with white lacy surf. Way o ut we can often see the outlines of ships bound for Long Beach or Los Angeles ports. Also the ou tlines of oi platforms pumping oil from under the pacific.

I definitely look for the beauty everyday! You kind of have to, or else you'll get tired & depressed....at least I would. I realized that I am happier when I get to get out & get into nature. Sometimes, I will just "BE" with it. Listen to the birds, watch the clouds....empty my mind & just be with it. Because for me, it will be back to the daily grind of the 9-5. Someday, I want to go to the east coast & see the changing colors of the leaves. We don't have real seasons out here, but we do have the pacific ocean, and it is beautiful! That's my glitter :)-

i dont see any picture here. you should attach it completely. yes yyou may say it again, all that glitter is not gold. some of them is worthier than gold, but some of them are worthless. gold is worth, ut if we misuse it, it may cause problem for ourself and humanity,, but gold may also save a nation and humanity on the righ hand who manage it

The picture is in the first reply--I often forget the picture, it's a failing of mine.
The gold like this, that God gives us, brings only happiness and peace. The gold we mine from the earth feeds our greed and causes misery because we don't have the spiritual maturity to use it wisely.
