Borussia Dortmund stunned Bayern Munich 1-0 at the Allainz Arena. Mario Goetze scored the all important goal that cuts Bayern's lead at the top of Bundesliga to 2 points. I saw the match and it was a real fast paced match, but I was really impressed by Dortmund. Apart from Goetze who for me was a standout player, the other player who caught my eye was Santana in defense. But Dortmund were very lucky as there was a legitimate Penalty claim for Mario Gomez which was not given by referee. So this result now throws the Bundesliga open again!! Cheers! Ram

For me, the best player on the field was Mats Hummels, who has stopped a few clear chances with his impressive intuition. Can you believe that this player was sold for only 4 million Euros by Bayern to Dortmund? Dortmund was very lucky to score that goal, as it was a clear handball when Goetze took the ball and that confused Boateng a lot. The fouls which were made on Gomez were outside the penalty box, the one which seemed to be a foul, but no replay was given, was on Luiz Gustavo. But this cannot be an excuse for Bayern when they play at home, as they should have beaten Dortmund, as the more quality is certainly in Bayern's squad. Schweinsteiger is at this moment indispensable for Bayern, as he knows when to slow down the game, when to fasten it, when to play the pass and where. I hope that on Tuesday his absence will not be so important and Bayern will get the win against Villareal to qualify from the group stages.

But, overall I was impressed by the overall pace at which the game was played. It was exciting and was very competitive. I loved Goetze's performance and also the performance of Santana in the defense. Cheers! Ram

Yes that is true. But I heard a very interesting comment from the commentator. He was mentioning that this season in Bundesliga for matches starting at around this time, the home teams have had a bad record. So that could be one reason as well.:) Danke!! Ram

It was a hardly fought game, and Bayern did the mistake to get into Dortmund's play, so Dortmund could control the most of the way of how the game went on. Bayern needs to dominate the opponent from the beginning and they need to dictate the tempo of the game on home ground. Unfortunately, Dortmund managed to impose their style and they were rewarded with very important three points.

I believe that Goetze is in the shopping list of a lot of top clubs. I heard that he is in the must buy list of Bayern Munich for the summer. Yes, this result really opens up the Bundesliga once more. Cheers! Ram

Bayern wants to buy Gotze, but I guess Reus from Monchengladbach is more important now. And it seems that he has already signed a pre-contract with Bayern, so whenever Robben will be injured, a younger and stronger player will replace him. If Bayern will sign both of these players, I guess Robben and Ribery will be off, as these two players are more younger, are Germans and are playing more for the team. As for the Bundesliga, I am sure that Bayern will win it, even with this result. Bayern has not so many difficulties with smaller teams, as Gladbach, Schalke, Dortmund or Werder have.

Actually yesterday when I saw the match, I was disappointed with both Ribery and Robben. Robben was not really even visible except for when he was running behind the referee for fouls. Ribery had a couple of good chances which he missed out on!! Cheers! Ram

I never expected this result, at least not at Allianz Arena. This result throw the league wide open as there is only two points separating the top two clubs. This will mean one thing. More excitement for the fans and neutrals.

Yes, that is correct. The league becomes more open and interesting now. I always prefer if the leagues are very close and the title is decided in the last week. That really is the fun of watching then!! Cheers! Ram

We'll, it was great performance by dortmund, they able to beat FC hollywood in their home. I think this going to be interestng to see continuity of the bundesliga which now getting closer bewteen many teams. So FC hollywood is no longer dominated this league for couple of recent years.

I think this result throws the whole league open. The lead of Bayern at the top has been cut down to 2 points. So now it is game on for BVB for the title chase. Cheers! Ram

Hi, I watched this match too, late into the night, in my place and it did not feel good to see Bayern on the losing side at home, after a long time. Good to see so many followers of the Bunderliga and the analysis of the Bayern's match against BVB made here are just as fair and factual as it can be. To sum it up, the result reflects that - 1. Bayern players looked a little tired throughout the match (less than 100%) and seemd to be outpaced by BVB players for pace, who had fewer representatives in the international friendlies. 2. Yes, Heynckes is a better coach than what he did with his decision to play Robben right from the outset. He should have been substituted in the second half but I feel that the absence of Tymoschuk (red carded last match) and Schweinsteiger (injury) might have influenced his decision. 3. Schweinsteiger was clearly missed as he is the nucleus of Bayern's game and controls the pace of the game so nicely. 4. Both Hummels and Santana got on top of Robben and Ribery effectively throughout the match which made a huge difference. 5. Ribery and Robben would be more effective when they play as a team than concentrating on claiming indivual goals. 6. Kroos has been in good form both for Bayern and Germany with his performances but he has still some way to go to really be considered in the same class as Schweinsteiger. 7. I expected Bayern to come up strongly after the half-time interval and BVB to slow down a bit (since they played a fast game in the first half and would have got tired). But to my surprise they (BVB) kept up their pace for the entire match which I think was the reason they won (though with a lucky goal that Bayern did not deserve to concede). Though a Bayern fan, I am, in one way, happy to see BVB playing well (being an ardent fan of German soccer) and head to Arsenal for a crucial match in the champions league. Hope this match has not taken a heavy toll on the BVB players and I would like to see BVB play the same way and come out truimphant against Arsenal. Meanwhile, Bayern have a relatively easier fixture against Villareal in the CL whom they beat earlier away. I am excited and cant wait to watch these matches on two successive days.

I agree with your assessment. I was also quite impressed by the way BVB played. But as an Arsenal fan, I can also see them losing to Arsenal in the Champions League match ;). Cheers! Ram

As a matter of fact, Hummels was declared the best player on the field, as I have thought it would happen. This is why I don't understand how have the officials of Bayern let him leave so easily. Now he would have built the best defense in Europe with Badstuber. As for BVB, I expect them to go down badly at Emirates, they fail to do a good job in the European stage. And you know that for German teams is more important to do well against Bayern and in Bundesliga as in European stage. I guess the rivalries are huge and the national feeling is strong, and that is the reason for them doing so.

Yes, its a surprise how the can lose him so easily..perhaps they didnt realise his potential earlier. As for BVB, they have a very good coach, nice youth system, wonderful fanbase and a fantastic stadium...all ingredients to be a top European club. Unlike Werder, Schalke, Leverkusen, Stuttgart who make up the remaining champions league spots year after year (apart from Bayern who play CL football every year), I think BVB has what it takes to play CL football every year. Though they lost Sahin (to Real Madrid), they are still capable of playing top level football.

Almost forgot to mention in my previou post. I do like the way Reus and Gotze are shaping up. Reus was ruthless in Monchengladbach's match against Werder Bremen and is on top of the 'wish list' on Bayern's transfer targets. Gotze, who is yet to reflect his Bundesliga class for the German team, is also wanted by Bayern and so many other clubs. My thought is, both these players much now concentrate on only playing good foodball and improve rather than be targets of these transfer talks, as Euro is fast approaching.

I think Goetze is there on Arsenal's list as well. What do you guys think will he be doing a deal over the January transfer window. Or whether he will play out this season with BVB and do the deal over the summer? Cheers! Ram

The great clubs want to get them as soon as possible, as they are enormous talents and their price will go up as time passes by. And the quality which they would bring to any club in the world would be substantial. Luckily, Germany has many many young talents, and I guess this is a good base for forthcoming international successes.

That is right and it really excites me. It is high time Germany has won some silver ware and they have the team to do it now. All they need is good wishes for fans like us and a little bit of luck, and they can certainly go all the way.
