Hi all. I have been working for all most 9 years( not in same organization of course!!). Even though I start great and get promotions, but soon i get bored of the job and place, and leave. I really wonder, how people continue with the same job for almost 5-10 years and even more. what it is that make people stick around so long or something is really wrong with me??

I am also like that I don't have the patience to endure a job even if it means I will lose some money. If I don't have fun anymore I am willing to give up the job and find another alternative. I worked as a schoolteacher and I got burned out and then I work as a medical transcriptionist and now I work at home writing articles. I am also starting to get bored of my job and probably would find other kind of jobs soon.

I have been in the same job for 33 years now. I have been getting my promotions and some kind of job/responsibility changes. Well, to be honest I wouldn't say my jobs were exciting or anything like that. If at all the jobs have been just about OK. Bored, yes! But then responsibilities-familial-weigh heavily and I cannot just think of changing for the sake of changing. The pay packet is good. I get a lot of regard and respect from my colleagues- if that would mean something- well that is not financial... but you see life goes on. In all probability I might retire from this organization- that I started my career in. Now, what stops me? Recently I introspected and found my passion. Now, in the present interval I am ale to give some time to my most interesting pursuit that has nothing to with my job. If I now try to change I will lose all that. For in the new place I may need to establish myself, and this effort may eat into the time and effort I need to put into my area of interest and passion. So, I would like to continue till I cross a few milestones that I have set for myself in the area I am passionate about. So, again life goes on. I derive my energy from my passion, for the humdrum of life.

There is nothing wrong with you it is normal for people to keep looking for a better job until we find one that we really enjoy and we feel the right job for us.Some are just afraid to risk looking for a new job. I work in 4 companies before I joined the company I am working now. I only stayed in those companies for 4-8 months but when I joined this company I am working now I really feel good about it and I am enjoying what I am doing. I am already working here in 4 years.

Myself sticking to the one particular job or organization always depends upon the work environment or atmosphere there. I don't pre decide things but am a peson who goes with the time. I have changed 6 jobs or organizations untill now. Once i feel that the place is not fit to work, I go fly a kite...

Actually I am not working now but if I would wor whenever in future, I will also not be able to stick with just one job. I am like free minded person. I get bored of the same things. I have changed my school for 5 times in my 12 years of schooling. I don't know what will happen when I would start working.

It's normal to keep changing jobs if you get bored with your work or if there is much more good offers that you receive. I only changed jobs twice, it's because of a good offer. Other people can work or a company in a longer period of time because they love their work and they are enjoying it. It's okay to change jobs so you can really find what's good for you.

I was changing jobs for the past 10 years because all jobs I do I do not like at all. Now my mother doesn't complaint anymore, and I can go for jobs that I like. I am working at an international market research company for 3 months now. I think I am going to stick around long here. You also can do the jobs you wanted since you not yet find something that you like doing for the past 9 years. I think you are okay, normal for people like you.

Hi ksmita.
We are on the same boat. The longest stay I had with a company was with an IT company. I stayed there for more than 5 years and then I got bored of doing the same thing. I then transferred from one company to another and worked my way up the career ladder. Initially, I transferred offices for reason of getting promoted or a higher paying job. But now, I transfer because I value sharing and wanted to teach. My values changed with time and I guess that makes me transfer from one organization to another.
The trend now is that many young professional stays with a company for an average of two (2) years. It has something to do with the changing trend and values of corporations. Nothing is wrong with you. But I suggest, when you find that company that gives you all that you need and a company you feel you can be loyal to, stick with it.
Have a nice day!

I have been working in three different places. I hate to stay I didn't like moving from one company to another comp. I have to quit and there were many reasons behind my quit. I didn't know if the company employed the wrong person like me or I employed in the wrong places or in the wrong.
I am a kind of loyal and eager to work. I am not loyal person but if I were asked politely by them, I would do my best.
I was disappointed with my second company, because it never paid my overtime working. I asked quit from my first of work place and I didn't have any problem with my first company. The owner was a good boss.

Since i started working i have already been to 5 jobs. The first one was the longest. I have to resign to change career, but it seems that career is not for me, so i again get employed. I had two jobs in the far city in a matter of 3 years. But since , it's in a far place from where my husband and daughter is, i have again to leave that job and went back to the province.
Here, i am at my current job and i am more than 5 years .

Hello ksmita,
I have been doing job since last 12 years and this is my 6th job and at present i have been associated with the present job for 5 years.
I don't feel there is anything wrong in changing jobs till you are getting any benefit like monetory or any other from it.
I changed jobs due to monetory reason and once i realized that now i am earning sufficient i left changing job but in future if i feel i am not satisfied surely i will search job and join if find it suitable for me.

It is normal for people ages 20 to 30 to have more than eight jobs in their career. Besides, you will never know what you like unless you try it. Job hopping has advatages. One is you can acquire different useful skills and knowledge that can be useful in the future. Next is you can create a larger professional network which could help you in recommending available jobs.
However, job hopping has a darker side too and you cannot do this forever. So you need to find out what you are passionate about as soon as possible. Look for a work that does not seem work for you. Our jobs are our second nature, so look for a work that can define you as a person. If you found that, you will never get tired of it.
Here are some questions you could ask yourself for you to know what you are passionate about:
1. What do you do when you have free time?
2. What are the skills that come naturally to you?
3. What are your favorite subjects?
4. What is your dream job?
5. What are the things that energize you?
6. What are the activities or interests that are stuck on you?
7. What are your areas of expertise?
8. What are the subjects areas you love reading about?
9. What are the things you do to help people?
and finally
10. What are your goals in life?

i've changed jobs for five times. i dont think its a problem, nor a problem caused by myself. maybe its not ideal to change jobs a lot times but i think what's more important is you're staying true to your self and to your priorities and if that means changing jobs until you find something that fits, or if that entails staying with the same company/job for decades, well then go for it. but that's just me ;)

I've changed my job around four times now. Not because I didn't like my job, but there was no growth in terms of career and salary. I keep changing jobs 'cause each time I change, my salary increases. I really don't plan on working for a company too long. I'm just saving enough to start my own business :)

I have been working four years till now. This is my second job and I am considering to change it. As our company doesn't have too many holidays, and I need further growth.
I don't know if it is right or wrong to stay in one organization for many years. Because different people have different opinions and choices.

I think it is because of the generation gap guys are changing jobs, i have worked in an organization for 30 years, for 20years as a chemist and 10 years as manager market research the two jobs i enjoyed a great. In home also my children told me that they are getting bored then i will tell them do some work you didn't get bored. I think we have no alternative for an other job that is why people are stick on one job for years.
