I too used to pay by cash and reason not paying via credit card is to avoid debt in future.

I understand the peace of mind angle. If you pay off the balance at the end of the month, there is no problem. But too many people do not and end up slaves to the card company

I would rather pay with the cash because then i know that if i do it's paid for right then and there and i don't have to worrie about it hitting the bank when i don't have enough money in the account to cover it.

there is a confidence that comes from completing a transaction and not having it hang over your head

I use a bank card which is like using a credit card without the bill at the end of the month. I don't like paying for things months or years after the purchase. Cash is risky and I spend it too fast. Also, my kids can clean me out in a matter of a few minutes.

the debit cards are preferred by the merchants because they do not have to pay master card a percentage.
