The importance of furthering a discussion!

I don't know why many people just start a discussion and don't bother to get back to the responses, or get back only once.
Personally, I try to further a discussion, regardless if I am the person who started it or not, till it is exhausted, till there is nothing more to say.
I know that since we don't receive so many alerts in our mails as earlier about the responses we've got(at least I don't receive all of them), it is good to check the discussions we've started or replied to in our profiles, to see if somebody commented on what we have written.
Because I think it is more easier to discuss on a single topic than starting numerous discussions or responding to a large variety of discussions, as our mind is set on one single one, and we can focus better.
And last, but not the least, it improves our rating and with that our earnings as well.
So what do you think on this one? Why are many discussions let to die and are not furthered till there is nothing more to say?

I don't think it could be a moment when there is nothing more to say in a discussion. Starting from the main topic, the discussion can lead us to different subjects so, theoretically, a discussion should never end.
But we are usually caught in other friends' discussions and we forget about the old discussions we participated in.
It's sad that sometimes, even if the subject of the discussion is interesting, the starter doesn't come back to further the discussion. Maybe there are only after the money and they think they got all they could from that topic. But they are wrong. Only when you further a discussion you start earning from it.

Hehe! I don't know about discussions about sports, because I have never participated into one. Or... have I?
But I think you can try to change the course of the discussion if you feel that it got to a point when it seems nothing more can be said. Especially if you discuss with your friends and you know know something about each other's interests.

Yes, there are times when I take the discussion in other direction, but not completely different from the original subject. A good discussion is always fun, especially if is with our friends, which we know better than other members here.

There are times when I think that a discussion is ended for that particular moment, especially if we talk about sports, where everybody who participated shared his views and nothing else can be said.
But of course there are some discussion which develop into other subjects and those can be very, very long. And if a discussion is long, it is more easier to comment on it, it takes less time, the fun is higher and the earnings also. That is why I do my best to further discussions as long as I have something meaningful to add.

Hi rappeter,
Yes, furthering a discussion is great. We can all learn so much from both starting and responding to discussions. This is what makes mylot terrific. I will try to further my discussions in the future. Thank you for pointing this out. Furthering discussions is so important to making discussions productive and fruitful.

Hello Phillyguy: That is a purpose of a discussion, to exchange as many information as possible, so the topic to be exhausted. The more ideas the better for us and we accumulate more knowledge by that.

It is great for many reasons: it is easier to further a discussion, as our mind is focused only on one aspect. It is more fun, we can exhaust a topic, and we earn more. I guess that is the what we are all looking for here: having a great time and earning as much as possible.

hi MandaLee and Rappeter
I agree with this furthering a discussion is really good because through that you will really learn something about the topic and sometimes exchange experience and other information that is not stated in the first response.

Many discussions are let to die because users do not know that furthering a discussion will give them just the same amount or more earnings than creating new topics. A 'meaty' discussion is indeed worth participating and even just reading through it.

I can imagine a scene in real life for example that I start saying something and my companion would reply and then pin drop silence follows! That is the fate of many a topic here!

I agree with both of you. As a matter of fact, I would say that furthering discussion brings more, as the recent days have shown me, I have been writing less as a number of responses, but earned more than when I just responded once to other discussions.
Luckily I have had interesting topics to discuss upon with other members here, which I can call my friends.
And I agree with Phillyguy's remark: why do many start a discussion, if they don't want to discuss more about it. That is the great here in mylot, that we can discuss with different people, from different cultures on different topics. Basically, everybody can find his interests here.

I agree with you allknowing many users think that they earn more if the discussions they started receives many responses even if they don't comment back to those responses. When I start a discussion I always try my best to reply to as many responses as I can not just the money I can earn doing that but because I want to further the discussion, in the first place why should anyone start a discussion if you don't want to talk about the topic.

Yes, i hate people starting tons of discussions on a daily basis. If they have that much of time in starting, why don't they spend some time in responding back right? Their actions goes to show how selfish they are when it comes to earnings. They want the easy way out, and it's easy to know who are those people with such mentalities. I've already deleted a handful of them from my friend list, because they are such irresponsible owners of their post.

Starting lots of discussions generates a good revenue, but if you further the discussions, you will get more. I have had the luck to be able to further a few discussions lately and my earnings have increased a lot in the past few days. And I also think that it is a sign of respect to try to give a comment to the responses.
So I agree with alberello, that is a wrong way if somebody wants to earn more.

Yes, furthering the discussion indeed earns one more money, be it the starter or responder. It's beneficial for both parties and it beats starting another discussion. This is a secret where not many people knows of, and even it's out in the open, very few are willing to buy it. It's such a pity.

Yea I have seen so many people, who just start a discussion but never come back to the discussion to see whats going on the discussions. The best way of treating people here on mylot is to start a discussion and keep checking your discussion for responds comment on it before someone else does. because when you comment after some one, the image of being a active member decreases in front of the poster.

Unfortunately, there are many users who never bother to get back to the comments and responses they get. As for being the first commenter, it is hard some times, as there can be a very interesting response and others jump to respond, before you can, even if you are the discussion starter.

Of course, I have experienced this many times and I am very surprised when this is happening to me.
Before anything, the fact that the responder doesn't get back to any of the responses is a lack of respect. There are times when he is away for a longer time, but when you see that he opens new discussions the next day, you feel that he doesn't give a thing on our opinions.

I always go back to my discussions to see if somebody have answer so I can reply, because a discusssion is not a discussion if there are not two or more people participating, so if it is only one person it becomes a monologue.
Discussion means talking about something with OTHER people in order to reach some kind of decision. Discussions do not have to happen in person, they can happen over the telephone or on the Internet.

That is a very positive attitude, I wish everybody, or the majority of the users of mylot would think the same as you do.
You are right, a discussion requires at least two people, in order to become a discussion. And when this discussions are fun and we are paid for that, it is more convenient.

I was really guilty of these the first couple of years i was here in mylot. I would start a discussion but i am almost always unable to come back to my own discussion. i would be absorbed by someone else's discussion. haha :D
Now I know better than that - i am getting back at my discussion and would see if there are any more responses that of course i can get back to =)

Honestly, I don't remember how I was at the beginning regarding these, but I will check it soon, after I will finish responding to the responses I've got to my recent discussions.
PS.I see that you are a very active person here, I am sure that you earn accordingly.

You are right!
I hope my posts can attract many responses, and i will take my time to comment back and further the discussions happily. It is a pity that the posts i raised often drew few responses, and even i want to further them, i can't. Lol.

I guess the fact that we don't get an alert for every response and comment makes many users forget about the discussions they've replied to. I have to admit that this happened with me also, as I thought that there are no responses. But then, I checked through my profile and I saw that there are replies to my responses and we developed long discussions with the others.
I really hope that you will be able to further the most of your discussions!

It saddens me when the one who started the discussion would not make an effort to have the discussion furthered. Maybe because she/he doesn't know how to or was just too lazy to think of how he can elongate the certain exchange of discussions.
I feel happy when my responses get comments not one from the one who started the discussion, but from others respondents.

Yes, the more respondents, the more longer the discussion can be and the more fun we have. And if we have fun, we can concentrate better and so we write more quality than if we didn't have won.
I am also very glad to see that I have comments to my response, it means that I have done a good job earlier when responding.

Yes, specially if the response gets other responses also and become animated like that of a group of friends talking with each other.

But you know I think it is impossible to remember all the threads started and maybe never finished, especially for those who have written thousands.
However it would be correct to write new topics and reply to comments of other users, until exhaustion of these.

You can check the activity on your discussions in the bottom right corner of the main page of mylot, so we mustn't remember all of our started discussions. I constantly check them, and I give my best to respond to all of them, as good as I can.
Yes, long discussions lead to exhausted topics.

Hello rappeter13,
I also don't understand why people start discussions when they don't have to comment back.Discussion means to interact with people not to sit quiet after starting it.
I always comment back to the respondents whenever i start discussion.I like to interact with people till i have something to say the moment i feel i have nothing to say i quit.
People who don't comment don't know that they are not doing justice with the discussion and missing fun as well as the chance to earn.

I always give my best to get back, everytime a comment or a response is being written. It is true that I cannot get back right away, as I have other activities also, but when I get my free time, I will get back and I try to respond as good as I can. I think it is a sign of respect also, besides any other aspect.

Well, sometimes i did not bck to and again ,again because sometimes i did not want to,or i dont have to say words.
Sometimes if the discussion is so interested i keep coming back,or if not okay to go back i just let it stay .

People skipping responses after making a post could be due to the notion [no one will & shall explain the scoring algorithm and people go by general perception] that while posting a new topic earns money, posting comments on a topic not only earns money but also the bracketed score with every user that is taken as a rank and a booster. It is evident that responding to comments an continuing the discussion are non earners!
Earning or no earning, I always find it redeeming to engage in a prolonged discussion if there are good responses. However, I too stray often, attracted by a new topic to post comments impulsively. . I am constantly trying to better my participation & performance here.

Let me know if I understood correctly: You say that furthering a discussion won't earn us nothing?
I guess that is a completely wrong perception, while it is exactly the opposite. I always earned more when I furthered discussions, then when I have only responded to other discussions.
As for the last part of your comment, I completely agree with it, long discussions improve our overall performance here, may it be earnings, knowledge, fun.

First of all, welcome to Mylot! I see that you are a new member here.
If you want to improve your English, which seems okay to me, you've come to the right place. What can be better than discussing about favorite topics, meet new people, get more knowledge, improve your English and your typing speed and get paid for that?
If you will be active, I am sure that you will be able to further many discussions.

I am a person who starts a discussion with honest intentions to know what others think about the topic, I am really curious of other people's opinion, point of view. The more opinions, the better, because we can make a synthesis based on more ideas, more knowledge.
I am happy that you found my discussion interesting.
