I have a reputation for sending out cookie baskets every year as Christmas gifts to those that are close to us. The trouble is that I have been using the same old cookie recipes for the past like ten years and it's starting to get old I think for both the giver and the recipient. So this year I am hosting a cookie exchange/ornament making party and want to make something really cool to share with everyone. I know most of the quests will be bringing the traditional cookies (chocolate chip, peanut butter, ect.) and I want to make something completely new but don't want it to turn out to be one of those "Oh you really shouldn't have " deals either. So I am turning to the great minds of Mylot for your favorite tried and true cookie recipes. I am not afraid of hard work and welcome challenging and new recipes so anything you have and are willing to share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

There are lots of awesome recipes for cookies online. I also check for new ideas at the "Joy of Cooking", my Bible as cooking goes. But it much depends on peopleĀ“s tastes so if you are going to share with other people, I would choose a recipe that could be liked be everyone. I love the easy sugar cookies or lemon cookies. If you want to add something special to them, make a mark on them in the center with your fingertip and fill the dent with jam.

The cookies I usually end up making all the time are chocolate chip, m&m, oatmeal, and snicker doodles. Sometimes I mix the chocolate chips in the m&m cookies as well. I've never made monster cookies but I guess those are the basic chocolate chip recipe but adding all kinds of goodies to them.
Something popped into my head this past week that I had not thought about since I was a child. In second grade our teacher had us make gum drop cookies. I never liked gum drops or any of those gummy type candies when I was young. Now I do like them and for some reason those gum drop cookies came to my mind. I have been thinking about finding a recipe for those, unless the chocolate chip (which is actually my m&m recipe) recipe will work for gum drops too.
I have a cookie recipe book. I used to have a bunch of them but they are long gone. Now I just go online to find recipes.
There is an old sugar cookie I would love to have the recipe for. The only thing is I don't know how to ask for the recipe because it is just a sugar cookie. It becomes a matter of trial and error.
I love cut out cookies for decorating. But the only recipe I use for cut outs right now is a short bread cookie recipe. It is very simple to make with only 4 ingredients. I am sure you can find it or a similar one online.
Keep looking, and you will find something that appeals to you to try new this year.

I just remembered this too...have you ever made a cookie "pizza"? Basically cover the pizza pan with your favorite cookie dough and bake it as usual...then top it with some frosting, and cover with all kinds of goodies like candies and sprinkles, etc. That could be a fun gift to make and also to share in decorating at your party.

I make white chocolate chip lemon sugar cookies.
A lot of people have never tasted them.
Gave some to a neighbor and she started hinting I had not made some in awhile LOL
Also to give a twist on your sugar cookies, once you made the dough, divide in half add some red food coloring to one half of dough.
roll a white and red piece of dough and twist. they will turn out to be peppermint sticks or make the bend and you have a candy cane.
There is also a recipe for cake balls that look just like cookies. REALLY easy to make. Message me and I will send you the recipe if you want any of these.
