The Battle of the Bulge

I have been trying to find the best way to shed the ugly fats that keep padding my body but to no avail. I skip meals and drown myself with gallons of water as I was told water can make those pounds go away gradually. Nothing to that effect. I am still searching as many health gurus have different versions of how to lose the bulges. Newer theories on keeping fit, healthy diets and lifestyles are on the news ever so often. Such news updates are not always helpful. Instead it can be aggravating that health advice changes so often just because of differing opinions and studies. Every expert seems to tell you 'nothing but the truth' as in the same kind of oath one takes when swearing in a court of law. However it seems that the health and keep fit truths have a limited 'lifespan' as new theories are spun ever so often! It is not only unappealing to walk around carrying the extra baggage of ugly fats but it is the health concern that we should be concerned. Definitely there are health risks. Think of those lovely clothes that we are missing out on. The many missed opportunities to wear figure hugging clothes, to feel svelte, fit and sexy. Worse still, think of those unkind and malicious comments that may have been made about our figure. I suddenly realize that I want to dress up and feel good and discard the gunnysack fashion which has become my fashion trademark. Anybody has success stories to share that might benefit many of us here?

The big trick is to exercise, exercise, exercise. Add lots of fruits and veggies to your meals, stay light on the meats, and don't consume too many sugary things. I lost a lot of weight in six months once just by cutting one unhealthy thing from my diet and talking a half hour walk every day. The biggest trick is to realize that you'll lose the weight slowly, and it's a permanent change in life once you go for it. Change one thing in your life that will make you healthier at a time until it becomes habit, then add in another, and another, and eventually you'll have a routine that will help you lose weight and keep the weight off.

I have already drop sugar in my coffee. Though it was a tough decision as I am so used to having sugar in my coffee. Maybe I would be successful if I follow your techniques. Good one.

Ah, I couldn't live without sugar in my coffee back when I drank it regularly. Now I have maybe one cup a month, if that. I feel much more energized without so much coffee in my diet.

Hi. I had the same problem. I've read several articles about losing weight but every expert seems to have different views and solutions of how to do it. So, I don't know which one to follow. Another problem is I'm really not into exercising except walking. So, I tried this certain slimming coffee and it worked for me. I lost about 5 lbs in less than 2 months. And after 5 months, from 185 lbs, I was down to 175 lbs (that was 3months ago, haven't weighed recently but I'm sure it is less than 175). But since I didn't do exercises, my skin kinda sagged while I was losing weight. So that is what I am correcting now. I'm still drinking that coffee and doing exercises. 30 minutes to 1 hour a day, I think, is enough. I need to reach my ideal weight of 130 lbs. Hoping for our success!

I've heard of the slimming coffee before but am not sure whether you're talking about the same stuff. What is the name of the coffee and where did you buy it?

I have always had issues with my weight since I was a young child, I don't know what will work for you but I can tell you what seems to work for me. First and foremost go to the doctor and find out that you do not have a medical reason for your weight gain or difficulty loosing it, it is even possible he may work out a plan for you. Granted I don't always do what my doctor tells me but it does work. I never skip meals because it is as if my body stores fat because it does not know when it will get food again so it keeps everything it can, so the ideal is eating smaller meals throughout the day, if I eat something like a yoghurt at 10 I will reduce a little what I eat for lunch because I will not be as hungry. Exercise, walking is a good start-up exercise, just move around a little at a go until you get more stamina, if you push to far too fast you may end up having an injury and then you cannot do any exercise while you recover, so do a little at a time, start with one or two kilometres if possible then as your body adjust add more distance after a while you will notice that it becomes easier not only to exercise but to maintain your diet as your body actually adjust.

I am only skipping one meal a day and it is usually dinner. The only place that is storing the most fats is my tummy area. You're right walking is one of the most effective exercise. I have done it but not consistence and that maybe the reason of slow result.

Bulges are every woman's woe. I am glad I've never really had this problem and would like to share my simple method of maintaining my figure. Well dear, certainly skipping meals won't do you any good and neither gallons of water will ever help shed those ugly fats. I've never grown fat all my my life because I have always been watchful about what I eat and what I engaged in. Actually I am ever watchful about my weight because more than just maintaining my figure my number one concern is keeping my health. I think the prime factor why I was able to keep bulges off is daily workout. I engage in 45 to an hour brisk walking/jogging every morning. In addition, I eat in moderation and my diet is mostly vegetable and fruits and white meat. I don't eat fatty foods at all. I do love sweet however but I eat them in moderation. Yes I also do drink lots of water not because I believe this would shed off the fats but rather because a well-hydrated body is more energetic and it is also important in digestion. I never skip breakfast, in fact I eat a lot during breakfast. One thing very helpful in keeping pounds off is eating just light food for dinner. Mostly only fruits and raw veggies comprise my dinner mostly and if I feel like eating more than fruits and raw veggies, I eat before 6 pm.

The fact why I am what I am now is because of my passion in cooking and every meal is a feast laid out on the dining table as I enjoy seeing the happy faces of people enjoying the foods that I cook. So without me realizing I have trained my taste-bud to reject food that is bland and not to my liking. After all these years of indulging in all these sinful foods I am now paying a heavy price making myself more like a humpty dumpty.

Looks like I have just woken up from a deep sleep and came to my realization that something must be done before more damage is done to my health. I am now trying to discipline myself when it comes to food and forced myself. to exercise everyday on the treadmill much to my dislike cos I am not used to this strict regime.

I see! Your story is similar to many people who has the same passion. Now dear don't be sad. You can still do something about that. It takes just self-disciple. If there is a will there is a way. Start doing it right now. At first it will be really hard but when you learn to eat in moderation and eat only the right kind of food you will find yourself enjoying and also when you begin to exercise you will also love how it boost your energy and slim down your waist and will actually find your day incomplete without this.

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji, Well, first of all I wish to apolize with you and all my friends that I got hibernated due to many reasons. Let me see if I could be regular here. Regarding your way of thinking, my hubby too ha sbeen doing and feeling since 5-6 yrs, he stays at 90-91 kg at this age of 73-74 yrs. He has tried all ways, however one of my Dr friend told to change the genes, which is not possible. Let me make you very clear that there are certain things inherient in every human biengs by the craetor, a snake will never give away venom, dogs will always find places in homes/locality and so on , similarly, you have to remain withinprescribed limits by our creator. So best is to keep working as my hubby does, tp kee[p yourself fit, medically and menatlly, if you understand very well this concept. May God bless You and have a great time.

None of the family are fat so I don't think it is the genes that influences my size. I have only to blame myself for not being too careful about foods. It took years of abusing myself on all those sinful foods which I can only regret now.

I have been on that battle, as well. I can sympathize with you, i want to wear sexy clothes too and not worry about my fats bulging. DOn't skip meals! That's a no-no! skipping meals only slows down your digestion and when you eat later, your digestion won't be fast enough making you more fat. Avoid it at all cost. I read this from an article and i'm also a nursing student, so i can assure you that i know what i'm talking about. If you really wanna fix that problem, you can't resort to short-cut solutions like skipping meals, taking diet pills, you have to use the oldest method on the book. Diet and exercise! Exercise as much as you can, aerobic exercises are ideal to lose fats and weight. Because if you do strengthening exercises or muscle building, it would make you appear bigger because the muscles grew but your fats are not shed enough and they are still there. Hope I helped!

I've asked a friend what she did to reduce her weight. She was once fat with a bulging tummy and she told me that she don't take dinner only a cup of milo. So I thought I would try it out by not taking my dinner. Well, I've just started skipping my dinner and have not seen results yet.

i seem to loose weight like crazy every time i get sick which is a lot lately. but i wouldnt recommend that way. my daughter used to be quite overwieght. she lost by walking a lot and not eating anything 4 hrs before bedtime. which is pretty hard when you are used to sitting at the pc at night and snacking. she did sunflower seeds to help. she has gotten so skinny now, i worry about her.

Maybe when one is still young it is much easier to slim down compared to people who have abused themselves indulging in sinful foods for years and not exercising. It would take a long time to firm up the muscles.

I don't believe in fad diets...yes you will lose the weight sure...but in a few month the weight will creep up on you even worse than before to me the best thing to do is eat healthy and in small portions...so divide your food to eat it 3 or 4 times during the day this way your metabolism will keep busy and help burn calories and walk at least once a day! I must admit I never went on a diet to lose weight and I don't like exercising I try to walk 3 times a week I have put weight around the middle in the past year but then at 66 what can one expect?

Excusable when age is the factor. It is almost impossible to reverse the damage done to years of eating and not exercising.

Hi zandi. I think every person is different. Some diet, exercise programs, etc. might work for one but might not work for the other person. I have a very fast metabolism, thus, I eat little meals several times a day. I am slim and I am having a hard time to gain weight. I notice though that long hours of sleep makes me gain weight a bit faster. However, I can lose that weight in less than a week with my busy lifestyle. The most important thing for me is that I know how my body works, thus, I maintain my ideal weight. About losing weight, there are lots of diet programs you can follow, but the thing is you have to try them to be able to know if they will work for you effectively. As I said we are all different; our bodies work differently. Seeing a dietitian is good but will cost you much.

You must be one of the lucky few who can eat and eat but still maintain that slimness. Fast metabolism is the thing that is not in me and it hampers all efforts to flush out those fats as fast I want them to go. I am envious of you.

Two sure ways---exercise and limiting your food intake. Don't just skip meals because there is a tendency for you to load up in the next meal. Just limit the food you eat. Try eating only small portions of the usual amount you eat. Skip sodas, and exercise. You will really remove a lot of your excess baggage.

Exercising is one thing that I hate to do. But what choice have I got when I am desperate in wanting to rid the excess fats that have found comfort in my body.

Well, I will say this, there are two kinds of fat. One of them is fat that can be burned off with diet and exercise and the other kind of fat is fat that cannot be removed no matter what you do. They consider that permanent fat. I do know that some medications put that fat on. I think liposuction might be the only way. Now, I say this because this is what I have heard and read. I am no expert.

Permanent fats are stubborn fats that have slowly assimilated with the flesh as a result of years of eating fatty foods. Without lipo I doubt whether we can successfully remove them.

I have gained enough weight that I have to lose some, or I will start having health problems. I have seen people lose weight on the Zola diet. One of the main items in the Zola diet is hCG, which greatly reduced you hunger, and then eating very low calories and lo fat. The hCH is claimed to make you burn fat. I have found that when I do the drops of hCG, even though it is a homopathic version, my hunger is a lot less. I am trying to eat homemade vegetable soups. My down fall is dinner. I am going to have to work on this meal and try to cut way back. Also, for health I starting juicing, which has made me feel a lot better. My ankles started swelling and had pain. All of that has gone away since I have start juicing once a day. I may try to juice three or four times a day using a lot of vegetables. I do know how that will work. The juice actually have fine pulp in it so it is not all liquid, which helps for hunger, also.

Truth is subjective. I had observed once, years back, a lady practice diet, not to eat but drink water. And the result was that she was puffed up all the same. Drinking excessive water does not reduce fat. I am not a doctor. But still this is the experience. For some, none of the methods will work and the anxiety will make it worse. It needs time and perseverance. You can eat everything, but leaving the space in the stomach, taking plenty of water, like early morning, and two hours before meals. You should have a tranquil inner disposition. A strong will power yes but not obsession. Withdrawing from eating little by little, , beginning to fast but not all of sudden, skipping one meal perhaps, This is a long process and not a mathematical process
