Who discovered the Philippines?

Before, people thought the Earth was flat and going beyond the bounds of the known horizons means falling over the edge of the world never to come back. Some people, however, thought the Earth is round and therefore can be circumnavigated, that is if one goes on in one direction, one would end up in the same location where the journey started. The Philippines only lies in that crucial point of no return as the seafarers from the other side of the world almost gave up hope of ever sighting land after crossing the vast Pacific.

Yup! You really have the point, friend. It's really wrong that we say Magellan, who discover the Philippines. Because before Magellan, comes into the our country. There are inhabitant here and we don't know who are they the real discoverer of the Philippines... I don't know why those historian says Magellan, discover the Philippines...

Yeah, if ever Magellan did not discovered the Philippines, some others will have it discovered in time. Anyway, in passing of time so many have changed, not only in other countries but here as well. We're just lucky that we are still here and still welcome the developments technology can bring.

Prior to your question who discovered the Philippines ? Negros were the earliest settler of long ago before it was colonized by Magellan. To point of view, the good things about being colonized or modernized by other settler was to know how we were raised differently from the other and different from other country meaning you are lack behind and you knew it was not good. While other people are getting advanced in every areas of their life, you still are in the dark ages, you still wear 'bahags', we need changes and developments as well. Changes means changing of the system of our life, it is not clothes centered but it is more of how you live your life. We could remover our identity, we can improve that our life is meaningful to other people.

I think you are half right. In our eyes, Magellan did not really discovered the Philippines. Rather, he just accidentally came in here and claimed that he is the one who discovered it. But in the eyes of the Spaniards, our country is not yet existing (remember that time, maps are not yet fully published and the powerful country are having a race where they can create a map or the world), thus for them he is the one who discovered our country. The word "discover" can mean something previously not seen has been seen. During that time, people are already living here and they are also doing trades with other country (like Chinese, Indonesians etc). But the existence of our country was unknown to the westerner. Thus when the time Magellan came here, he has claimed that he is the one to discover the Philippines and he has send message to king Philip about this (which lead to the Spaniards colonizing the country).

I think these is true even before we are being colonized by other countries we already have our own religion and government. It is the Filipino that first discovered the Philippines. But the countries that have colonized us also helps us a lot and maybe as you said maybe we are still wearing bahags if we weren't colonized by these modernized countries before. Especially those countries that colonize us helps us to have a proper education and also know how to manage our economy. From Spaniards that we learn some ways to give respect to the girls and elders that we should be Thankful.
