When I only take family or holiday pictures but still like the quality of DSLR pictures is it worth buying a DSLR or should I be looking at a bridge camera. With an DSLR there is also the cost of lenses to be considered, whereas with the bridge you have the quality without the cost of extra lenses.

Dear friend Telmesh, good day!thank you for your suggestion for my grammar mistake. I suggest you to buy a DSLR,although you have to consider of the lenses.but is much more professional and multifunctional for taking pictures, especially when you are travelling with your family. you can get better picture quality than bridge. Best wishes lightrain

Hi lightrain, can't remember making a suggestion for a grammar error. I am aware of the quality of DSLR cameras but was hoping that as the sales blurb that there was little difference in quality of picture. My desire would be for the DSLR but cost comes into consideration. The extra cost involved in purchasing lenses for DSLR more than doubles the total cost.

Hi Telmesh, you are right, the lenses is really expensive, If you consider of the cost of the lesens, you can buy the bridge camera.but if you want to make further study about photography, you can buy the DSLR. hope you can buy a nice camera and take more beatiful pictures.

If you are taking just general photos you might want to consider a Canon G12. It has the same inner workings as a DSLR with the convience and size of a point and shoot. You have a 5x optical zoom and the cost is about half of a DSLR. It is as close to a DSLR with out buying a DSLR

Thanks for this posting it has made me look and compare Canon cameras and the SX40 looks to have better range. Is there a reason to buy G12 over SX40 when there is little difference in price and the SX40 is so much better than the SX40.

My friend, what's stopping you from using digital camera, don't you think it is a lot convenient to use digital camera nowsaday with the ease of computer and advance photo-shop software around where you can edit your images with ease. I think DSLR is nice to have if you are an advance photographer and demand higher quality photo with different details.

If it comes up to the quality of the D500 it would be great.
