India replies strongly to mammoth score of 590 put up by West Indies in their first innings. End the day at 281/3 still needing 110 runs to avoid the follow on with Sachin Tendulkar on 67 and Laxman on 32 at the crease. West Indies added 15 runs to their overnight score of 575 before being all out for 590. India replied strongly through Sehwag and Gambhir. Sehwag was at his flamboyant best scoring 37 of 50 balls before getting out to Sami. Gambhir was the next man to be out on 55 when the score was on 138. Dravid was the last man to be out on 82 at the score of 224. Sachin Tendulkar had a narrow escape when he was dropped by Wicket keeper Baugh of the bowling of Bishoo when he was on 58. He seems to be heading for his 100th international hundred. Barring some drastic changes in pitch conditions tomorrow on fourth day, the match is heading towards a tame draw. The first target for India tomorrow is to clear the follow on hurdle by scoring 110 runs and then march towards a sizable lead at a fast pace if they have to force a result. For West Indies they will have to get 7 Indian wickets early and get a good first innings lead and then set a decent target for India on fifth day. What do you feel there is still a possibility of a result in this match?

Thank you ashudeep. I agree with you the possibility of result in this match is very low but you never know anything is possible in cricket. Wankhede pitch is also likely to deteriorate on fourth day. It is not the same as it was on the first day. So let us keep our fingers crossed and see what is in store for us on the forth day.

I don't think we can blame the pitch totally. I also think Indian bowlers also did not bowl well in first innings esp. first day. The fast bowlers Aaron (making debut) & Ishant were not disciplined enough, bowling both sides and not sticking to wicket to wicket like Sammy: as then you get more wicket taking options like bowled and LBW. It could also be in first innings, the wicket was bit damp on first day, not fully prepared.

you are right banta, Indian pace bowlers could have done much better early in the morning when there was lot of moisture in the wicket and the ball was doing some thing. Had there been Zaheer it would have been different story all to gether. In West innings also they have let off Sachin when he was 58. You can not afford to win matches if you let off the batsman like Sachin.

After some good batting performance from West Indies now its India's turn.
I think India is going well on it.
Viru started as he normally does, Gauti scored a valuable half century but unluckly given out by the umpire.
Dravid reached the 13000 mark and played a valuable innings of 82, but missed the century on the batting friendly pitch.
Sachin and VVS going well and hope that both will score the century.
110 runs to avoid follow-on, I think India will easily achieve it.
And the Test is almost going towards Draw.

The main reason Test is tending towards draw is that, West Indies scored the runs with a low scoring rate. India is scoring comparatively in descent run rate.
And to get the lead tomorrow, India should score with a very good run rate,so I dont think its possible to have the lead tomorrow and with that lead to make them allout on the final day...

Thank you venkit. Yes the test is most likely heading towards a tame draw. we may expect some surprises if pitch stars deteriorating on the fourth day tomorrow but that possibility seems very rare. If India could manage to get some lead tomorrow they can still put some pressure on West Indies on final day.

At end of day 3, match is most probably heading for a draw. I think India will first go for safe score above 500 first tom, and then if wickets are in hand after tea, might push to take 100 plus lead and try put West Indies under pressure on day 5.
Kudos to Indian batsmen for performing well as expected today. Sehwag & Gambhir gave the Indian team a good start. Then Dravid played a wonderful hand, and now Sachin and Laxman are involved in another solid partnership. Cheers :)

India definitely will have to be cautious before the first hurdle of follow on is crossed. Once this hurdle is crossed they can think of getting some lead and encash it on final day. Anything is possible in cricket and 110 is by no means a small total on fourth day of a test match.

Dravid must be kicking himself for missing the century that was at hands today. He dragged one onto his stumps. He had showed his soccer skills just before the Tea interval by kicking a ball just as it was going to roll back onto it's stumps. Sachin looks on course to complete his 100th 100. Currently he is only 33 runs off it. I think he will get it tomorrow.
The match itself is meandering towards a tame draw.
Cheers!

This time I have to agree with you that the game is heading for a tame draw. I was expecting the ball to do a little bit on third day but the preparation of the pitch seems to be firmer this time and it may be too late when the pitch will start doing something. I do hope Sachin completes his century. He has been let off by Baugh of the bowling of Bishoo when he was on 58. I think that is destiny.

As three days passed in this test and there is pile of runs from both team, more likely this match will have no result. There is no chance of result untill some magic works
Well INDIA give the strong reply to the mammoth total of west indies. Alredy three of the INDIANS cross the half-cenuties and moriley laxaman will get tomorrow as well. Dravid just crosses 13000 runs and missed his 37th century with 18 runs. Sachin is lokking good and he might get the magical 100th 100 tomorrow. All eyes will be on him.
Rest is nothing to talk of, the pitch is flat and no spins as well as lack of assitance to faster bolwers. This game was made to be for batsamen and 3 days had shown it. Next is just a formality of play.

i strongly feel that this grave pitch for bowlers is going to make sachin's 100th 100.. does he really need it here ???

Hello msdivkar, now the big question is whether Sachin can take his 100th century in his home ground. After the end of the third, I got a feeling that there is a bit more cricket left there. We will wait and see. That is why the game of cricket is such an interesting one.
