The incredible shrinking house.

That's where I live!
We have a home that SHOULD be big enough for us but because I can't get DH to do any of the work that needs doing or help me do it, there are rooms that are just junk rooms.
I get sick of clearing them ready to be done and then it never happens - there's always some reason - so the rooms get filled up again. Things don't seem to have a permanent home because they are always being moved around.
Some are full of stuff and it isn't even ours but a club we belong to but somehow we end up bringing most of it here for storage.
I feel like lighting a match to get rid of a lot of it!
Does your house shrink like this?

My house gets like that!! my 4 year old daughter has that many toys that she won't part with (so I end up freecycling some behind her back)...I have a slight hoarding problem that I am overcoming (nothing like the tv shows)...my house is a constant clutter zone & it doesn't help that the past 2 houses including this one i just moved to doesn't have any storage space.

My daughter has so much stuff. You see we live in a low income apartment complex and for some reason people throw away the nicest stuff. My daughter is what is called a dumpster diver. She sees something in the trash and soes for it. She has found cute little nic-nacs, televisions, toys, clothes, furniture, etc. that people have thrown away and it is still in working order. Amazing what people throw away.

Oh yes, our house has shrunk over the years, but we did manage to expand it for a while.. but then we took on a load more junk from a relative who had moved and downsized.. Got rid of all I could on e-bay and charity, but it is quite suprising how picky some charities can be.. They want the good stuff no problem, but not the rest.. _Derek

Oh, yes, and to think we have a housekeeper at that. We just have way too much stuff to the point that both our vehicles are parked outside the garage 'cause we had to make the garage some kind of storage area for the bulky stuff like chest freezers I've used from a failed business I had. Worse is that my sister and her two kids and two nannies are staying with us for a few months while her husband is out of the country. Oh, I'd wish I was rich enough to buy a mansion :)

Yes and that's when I do what I call my "Spring" cleaning. No matter what the season really is if there is a lot of junk lying around and I see no see for it then out it goes. The first thing you need to do is stop storing things for this club you belong to. If you do not have the space for it then they need to understand that. This is your home and you should feel comfortable in it.

Sounds like you do not have a house but a rent a storage place or warehouse. Speaking of warehouses, did you ever see those renovated ones in big city centers like New York. They are fabulous darling, people love them because they fix them up, with open space concepts and unconventional furniture. Living space whats that if it looks like a garage or my basement, yuk, actually have the problem now down there. Who is DH? We need one area only for the movers. The other rooms are for...............to do other things in, so NO junk in here rule?
