hiii,
I am a user of photoshop from a long timt and i am very much familiar with it and loves to work on it.
Well, You are talking about vector images so let me tell you one thing that vector images are best edited in Adobe Illustrator and also they are created in it.
that;s why you have also noticed this thing that vector images have got their extension as .ai which means that they are meant to be opened with Adobe illustrator.
But Photoshop also opens vector images but you can only use the image that you want if you can select it by selection tool else it'll be tough task to extract image from a vector image in which the layers are not present.
As you also might be familiar that photoshop works best on layers.
So better to open the image in Adobe Illustrator or use selection tool in photoshop or you can also use masking concept of photoshop.

photoshop does not process vector based output images, it uses a pixel base. so if you want to use a vector base adobe product you should try adobe illustrator. :)
