Weekends and holidays do not make any difference to me anymore

Ever since I suggested to our big boss that I will update our website, my work has continued to pile up and now, I have been working even on weekends and even during evenings! I don't have much free time now and whenever I do, I just choose to watch a movie or a drama or an anime and I can't myLot a lot anymore! Aside from my usual work, our big boss keeps on giving me work assignments (aside from the website) and although it all involves writing, it still stresses me out and I even think I'm getting thinner because of it. No matter how I want to eat a lot, I sometimes just lose the appetite from too much stress. I wish it's already the Christmas vacation!

I tried that at a couple of the jobs I had...offer to do something not in my job description but to help the company etc. You know...when the "job experts" said to give 115% of yourself to the company and it will be rewarded at raise time..yeah, right. Anyway.. I did that and all it did was....make more work for myself and more work from my employer to dump on me cause they saw how good I was and instead of hiring another person....they just doubled my work load, knowing that I wouldn't quit as I had two kids to support! I finally learned...do just your job description, maybe a little thing here or there, but don't offer to much..they will just take advantage of you and it doesn't get "rewarded" at raise time! Took me 3 years and tears to get my first raise!

I know what you mean! And I would just like to add that if you have other talents, they would also exploit it without even thinking of giving you some reward or incentives or something. It depends on the type of boss you have! If you have a kind boss, then expect a reward. If not, then good luck.

Well, I do get more field works and that certainly means additional pay but we don't get overtime pay for working on weekends. We can only switch the time, like offset the days we work on weekends with days we are supposed to work on weekdays. It means, we can absent during weekdays without being considered as absent.

every ber season people tend to get busy. lucky you that you have a work that will make you busy. some people worry about this season for they dont have any work to do. after new year i guess you will have lesser work. we dont have christmas vacation for we musicians we dont have holidays. although i would love to take a break during those seasons but we cant. before we also have breaks during holy week but now a lot of people change already. they party during holy week. theonly break is maundy thursday and good friday. so although i know you are tired you are still lucky that you havea job. just dont forget to eat balnce diet so you wont get sick. if you dont have any appetite atleast eat a fruit.

Hello secretbear, I am sorry to hear that even on weekends and at night you still have to do work. but does the company pay you for doing all those work? I hope they do because if not you have to do something about it. Don't stress too much as it would not be good if you do a lot of work and you don't take care of yourself. You have to voice out what you are feeling and just tell your boss that you are not a robot to be able to do everything that is being loaded to you. I hope you take care of yourself, alright?

Wow...I hate to hear the boss is keeping you so covered up. I know that during the busy season where I work at, I sometimes ask myself what I'm working for besides the bills. It's not like I have time to enjoy myself or reap the benefits of working my tail off all the time. Thank goodness we are not as busy in the summer. If we were I don't know if I could handle working all the time while the sun is out and calling..lol. Winter here makes it easier to work the nasty 7 day weeks that we sometimes have. We are supposed to start our 7 day weeks next week. Oh I dread it. I know it's money but it is tiring. Maybe you could ask the boss for a little help in getting caught up. It's not like you haven't been working your tail off. Tell him it's just for a while so you can get where you need to be with the assignments. Sometimes when they think you have it under control..they pile it on the person they think can handle it. If you let them know where you are at..maybe they will at least lighten up on the assignments for a while. Take care.

Yeah, I ask myself that, too. Why I work like a cow aside from the salary. I do enjoy writing but I guess it's more on the thought that my boss recognizes my talent and skill. I don't want her to be disappointed to me so I try to meet her expectations. Still, I do know how to take a rest and enjoy myself when I have the opportunity.

That is sad that you are so overwhelmed with work. That takes the joy right out of your job. I hope it eases off during the holiday!

That's just too bad for u, secret That's always the case, whenever we make suggestions and we end up the one doing it. But at the same time, boss are not understanding enough, but to keep giving us more work to do I've been in that situation as well, and it's definitely not a good process Don't worry, christmas is just round the corner and by time u finished your work, santas claus would be there with his smelly socks.. haha

Well secretbear, it seems that you are quite busy. But I think you must be very good at your work so and so that your boss have given you such job. Well, I guess you also deserve some rest and perhaps a great vacation. Lucky for me, I am my own boss. I get to choose my schedules and my activities so basically time is not much of a hassle for me. Anyway, what is important is that we have a job and for as long as we have one, we should do this with the best of our abilities. Best to you always and may you have a great vacation coming...

It's not really pleasant when you have to work so much like that. Hopefully, this will change for you soon enough. You can always keep your fingers crossed. At least, this extra work may mean a few extra dollars for you to play with and such, which would be a good thing for you.

Hi Secret, it is a pity that you don't have free time for yourself anymore. Hopefully, you would be able to find another better solution to solve your this problem. If it was me, i think i won't be able to handle it for long, since i can easily get migraine recently. And for sure, i will also loss a lot of my weight since i will loss appetite, if i don't get enough rest. Hope you will get some vacation soon, to relax your mind and body as well.

I think you are right but corporations don't see it like that....and that is what is wrong with the world....too much about money..not enough about actually living a life and enjoying it!

my weekends not different from holidays anymore... i have to work even on a holiday... being in the news related field and all... i constantly have to open my laptop for news updates... now i'm having trouble distinguishing the holidays from the weekends and the regular days... but come to think of it, it maybe good cause you get paid higher during holidays... so i'm always looking forward for news updates on holidays... more news means more pay... :)
