I like watching some of the cookery shows and some of my favorite cookery programs are Nigella's kitchen,Floyd's India which has become even more popular after his death in 2009 and some of our local cookery shows.I also make it a point to try out some of the dishes and find them really good especially the ones shown on Floyds India and Nigella's...How about you friends? do you enjoy watching cookery shows on the telly and do you sometimes try out the dishes? Please share your experiences and views here ...

Hi kiran,
I'm not so much interested to watch cookery shows on TV. But my wife is very keen to watch cookery program on TV.She makes various dishes accordingly. I enjoy those dishes. Once I tried to make a food item after watching TV show. But it was just a mess.I never tried again.

There are about four shows that I enjoy watching. They are Chopped, The Iron Chief, Secrets of a Restaurant Chief with Anne Burrel, and Diner,Drive-in and Dives with Guy Fieri from Big Eats.
I like Chopped because they put ingredients together that one would never think of using like making a dessert with red jalapeƱos. The Iron Chiefs are just fun to watch. Guy Fiere goes around the country visiting popular diners and so forth that are home owned..

Hi deecomb, Thanks a lot for sharing those details. We don't get any of the channels you have mentioned here in India, so it is interesting to hear about what you get to watch...We do have similar shows here showing local and other dishes and they too are very good - all the best and enjoy your evening

I agree ! I learnt about Vietnamese dishes only after watching cookery shows , also learnt quite a few Thai dishes ! It is really good to be able to try out new dishes knowing fully well how it looks , though taste is something we have to wait and wonder about until it is done ..

Well, there are some interesting cooks out there that you can really get some Good ideas from when it comes to cooking. I know there are times I wish I could do some of them and have my dishes come out looking as good. I also enjoy shows like Hells Kitchen where the people have to cook certain foods and compete against each other. Makes you wonder how they can be that creative for sure.

That's great ! Most of the popular and famous chefs are male and that shows that men take probably greater interest in cooking and food related matters. In my own case, my son loves cooking and is a better cook than my daughters... - all the best and have a nice weekend

Well I used too. Back about 7 years ago when they all started, just before it turned into the "lastest craze"... they were really good. I like Rachele Ray 30 minutes meals. And many of the others. But as time went on.. they just got to wild for me. I mean..who goes to work all day and comes home and wants to make a fish meal with all the spices and other things they do to the dish? The dishes just got to elaborate and to ornate and the like. SO I stopped watching them. I then started watching Paula Deene and hers are still pretty easy and quick and good.
But like everything on TV....they take things to extreme that often it just looses it's purpose. I don't watch any of them now! To teadious and to much stuff that I don't eat, can't afford to buy or just don't want to bother with!

I agree that there are too many cookery shows these days and at times we do tend to watch some shows that are not upto the mark. However, once you like a certain show, you do look forward to it and also learn many dishes through them..all the best and thanks a lot for sharing your views

LOL..I agree !You have been very observant in what you see on the cookery shows I think even Nigella is a bit of a show off where low neck and her general attitude is concerned. But I still love watching her shows mainly because most of the dishes are simple and easy to prepare and have an international appeal.I love her desserts which are mostly fruit based and look absolutely mouthwatering !

Hi devi, thanks a lot for your responseI agree the best part of watching cookery shows is later trying it out .I too have learnt many dishes and have also tried many dishes which come out well...Only once things went wrong because in the given recipe there was too much of spices ...I had to later tone it down by adding tomatoes and other stuff...all the best

I love watching cooking shows! I don't have any particular favorite programs, since I like to watch whatever is available to me. Basically everything I know about cooking has come from watching too many cooking shows since I've never had anyone take the time to properly teach me how.

It's always fun trying out any interesting dishes I see on a show! Aha, it's been an adventure having to teach myself to cook. Many burnt pots and pans along the way, but I feel as if I'm decent at it now.

I do watch some cookery shows sometimes for variety of reasons. I esp. like Kunal Vijaykar's "The Foodie" as he gets his expert guest cooks in varied settings to share food experiences and cook their favorite dishes, ensuring jovial time using his wit and analysis. I also watch certain shows to see places one can travel to get quality food. Also learn to make some simple useful dishes. Get to see anchors interacting with commoners and food stalls in their unique fun style.

Hi banta,I too watch The Foodie and once when he was at Hyderabad, he had someone cook authentic Hyderabadi dum Biriyani which was excellent since we too prepared it at home and found it very very good. There is another show where dhabas and small restaurants from all over India are shown with authentic local food being served ...There is no cooking as such but one gets to see different local dishes..

I used to do that earlier but all my spare time now goes here which I find more absorbing. I did pick up a few easy to do recipes and have added them to my daily routine.

I have never been real big on cooking shows because you get the mental image that you have to have all those ingredients etc.
You did bring back some memories for me though. I worked for HSN (Home Shopping Network) and you could watch the show live from where you sat to take calls.
When they had food on like steaks etc, or if they were using a new cookware gadget or pots and pans etc, they would do cooking.
I remember one day htey had some of us out on the floor try a piece of steak, It was an exceptional cut of high quality but they just cooked it added no salt pepper anything for taste and you had to reply how good it tasted LOL.
Trust me you NEVER wanted to taste the vegetables if they were doing that show. No seasoning at all it was a blast to watch the faces as they tasted and had to say it was really good LOL

Hi marie,LOL I can imagine how it must have been...In India we add a load of spices to conceal the real taste of meat, I am not sure if that is good or bad - however it tastes good.I am not much of a meat eater so..But I feel that fish and sea food needs some spices to tone down the fishy smell...thanks a lot and all the best

I love watching cooking show since I love to cook. But I enjoy it more if the show is a contest. the cooking show that I enjoyed the most is the Top Chef with host Padma Lakshimi. I really love that show. All the contestants are really good, and very talented when it comes to cooking. I would love to be a chef someday, so I really enjoy watching these shows, and I can also learn some cooking tips.
