Does your cat talk

What is the language of cats? The last two cats I have had don't talk very much and I wonder why. I wonder if it's because I am in tune to their needs and so maybe they don't need to? My last kitty did not talk at all until the last few months before she passed away. And that was like a greeting when she would come into a room and see me. And this one only when she is hungry. Tell me your thoughts.

well... I'm going to guess these cats don't have much Siamese in them - because Siamese are more "chatty" than most other cats. I've heard some ideas of why they are, and it could be because pure Siamese are blue eyed, and might therefore have some genetic "history" of vision problems. Cats that are blind, or don't see well, do tend to be more vocal than other cats, and its possible that its kind of moved into the genetics of there mixed offspring, because I've had Siamese mixes that are noisier than "normal" cats. Now, Rygel is one of those, he's got quite a few sounds he makes and he raised Oliver, who ISN'T Siamese, but is pretty chatty because the cat who raised him is also pretty chatty. Daisy, on the other hand, barely used to make any sounds at all, and only after getting herself trapped in the bathroom or pantry a few times has begun to speak up. It could be that your old cat was beginning to have vision problems and that's why she started talking. And my cats are sure to let us know, however they can, if they think their food bowl is getting low or empty!

Interesting, I never heard that. You could be right about Muffin. She had a thyroid problem and had to take medicine for it. Poor thing. I felt so sorry for her. I miss her every day.

Hey shskumbla, You are right. Cats can understand what we tell to them. Actually they understand our languages and they tries to cop up with them. I have a lovely cat named chikoo in my house. I love it very much. He understands what we tell to him. He ran towards us when we call him from a certain distance. Which means that he loves me more.

My cat only seems to talk when she wants food, but a neighbour of mine has a siamese cat that actually has a real conversation with her, she only has to say something and the cat talks back, it looks really funny.

My cat meows all the time (one of them) for no apparent reason, it does feel like he would like to tell me everything. Sometimes he wakes me up in the middle of the night and just meows in 100s of different meows. The only time he is silent(ish) is when he eats and even then he mumbles. A really loud kitty! But what can you do other than listen heh. The other can is Mr. Silent - he only meows when I open food and when he comes in the apartment like saying hi!

I had a cat a few years ago that would always talk, the only way to stop it from keep talking was to keep playing with it.I think my friends cat is funny, as all that do is talk.My friends cat seems to call her, she has to even let it in the bath room when she has a bath, other wise it cries so loudly. It sounds like its saying where are ya when it talks.

Mine doesn't talk much either. They only talk to me when they need something like food or they want me to pet them. According to Animal Planet, the most talkative breed of cat is the Burmese, so you might want to get that.

My cats used to "talk" to me all of the time. Well, really it was like yelling at me whenever they didn't like the things I did, which seemed to be a lot. An outsider wouldn't have known what was going on, so maybe it was just that I knew them so well!

Some cats talk more than others. My cat Smyles (who is a boy cat) does not talk much at all, but he purrs all the time. My cat Kali (she is a girl)talks once in a while and my other girl cat Blackee loves to talk and meows all the time. I guess just like people who love to talk while others do not like to talk. Cats are amazing because they all have different personalities.

I have a cat, well it's my daughters.. he always walks with me to the shop and waits for me to get out and we walk back home. If I go out or away (bike or car) he is watching me and waiting too. If he is hungry or want to get in he tells me. If I want him to leave somewhere or go outside I tell him and he does so. He can have a very ugly look at me! Well the good news is that I do find him ugly but according to my daughter he is the most perfect and beautiful cat in the world, the example of perfection (I think she does need glasses or so or this must be a sign of her love for him). I always feed him etc.. but if he sees my daughter he doesn't recognize me anymore and she seldom says hello to him and I don't think she ever fed him in her life (she is 21).
