It has come upon just a thought and also I overheard from a friend. Some call center agents are professionals, holding a degree in this and that. But their work is not in their line of field or perhaps to some, it may be to some extent. Also, some agents are undergraduates. When presented with a high offer, one tends to grab tight of the rein and somehow letting go and pursuing one's career path or returning to school can be tough. Can money really make people deviate from a definitive path? I simply think some paths are never really definite, just that one decides to create one of their own.

Well I guess that can be the reason behind why many are into the call center industry. The pay is rather high and quite attractive as well. If you can just tolerate the workshift and graveyard hours then I guess this could be your calling. They are even boasting that you can earn more like what an OFW is earning abroad and you are still here in your country which means you are still with your loved ones.
So I think the pay is a big factor why many good english speaking citizens prefer this type of job.

I guess so. I never thought of that having to earn big without having to go abroad. I wish I can work abroad. Call center industry never much entices me. Much more, my father. I do hope they are happy with their job, not much with the pay. Though, that is inclusive in employee satisfaction. I can't help but feel concerned about their health. Much with, varied sleeping patterns.

I have heard that a lot of displaced nursing graduates were given a chance to work in here and they got a better jobs than their original plans of going abroad. It is true that their career paths were somewhat skewed away from them. But this is a better alternative than not getting a good opportunity to work abroad because we have over produced the number of nursing graduates needed.
As for me, I am not with this industry but I can see the stark difference in lifestyle for those that are working in here. I saw our neighbor working at a good bank and I supposed is being paid accordingly transferred to a call center and worked on night shift got her pay much better than what she was receiving in that bank. His husband followed suit after that and they are living rather comfortable lives as compared with their former employer.

depends on which is your participation in the industry - an agent that is the bread and butter of the call centers, a team leader, a quality specialist or a training specialist. It is just a bit different, i guess for every people who have been in the industry. many stay and liked the pay, many leave because they found no meaning in what they do anymore. and this happens to all sorts of industry not only the call center industry. people who have loved their jobs, people who give importance to their work and career would find themselves addicted to their work no matter what industry, position they hold in a company.

I think you've hit the right answers It is true, regardless of what your degree is... it is always where you find yourself happily working for a position or industry where you're actually not supposed to be in. If you are good at what you do, it doesn't matter if you are not using your supposed "profession" as long as you're earning well, you're good at it and you love your work - it will work fine

Meanwhile, life happens. You need money to pay the rent and feed yourself and get around.
Having goals towards a career is fine but I'm sure going to school then jumping right into formal study is taxing for some. Perhaps a lot of people burn out and have to take a break.
No matter what, bills have to be paid and food put on the table. It can cost a small fortune to chase a career, in more ways than one.

A small fortune indeed. One needs to dish out some cash to pave a smooth road in one's career. An easy route can only be placed for the few lucky ones and especially those fed with silver spoons. I think that personal choices are what drives a person to a certain path.

Money hasn't really been what has taken me from certain paths...life has been a huge factor though. Just when I think I am on the right one....bam...it all changes. I went to school originally for electronics. Once I graduated and got a job, I started to do some troubleshooting on an Automated Storage and Retrieval System. The Vice president of the factory apparently saw a different potential in me and the next thing I know, I am a Team Leader in Inventory Control. I have been back in school for a couple of years now working towards a degree in Business Management. The company I work for is paying for it provided I keep a certain grade point average. I don't even know, to be honest, if that will be my final path..lol...life is wide open for us and we never know what it has in store.

Indeed. As of the moment, I try to welcome opportunity than to focus myself uni-directionally. Like you, I know my career path may vary. I am a nurse but I see myself yearning to work in the field of travel as in cruise ship, cabin crew. lol I don;t know. Just that, I keep my doors open. :)

hi there emjay86,
with reference to your main topic discussion, somehow i can really say that the moment a person earns even a little amount will be the start of his/her another venture. since, he/she experienced the feeling of having a money out from his/her effort, so will be challenged and somehow be excited to earn once more. as a result, the guys working from a call center will really be indulged to work there though their job is not on the line of duty that they must be handling. since they were offered a high paid salary, so they will agree and bind themselves to do the task. hence, the high paid salary is the main reason why they have accepted the job. as there were some people who will not care anymore if he/she is working under his/her specialty. thus, as long as he/she is earning high, then he/she will continue to go for it. and this is the reality of life. that, it is not important anymore if you are working under your line of duty as long as you have the high salary.

High salary is indeed enticing. My cousin is hooked to it now actually, our families are somehow saddened by the thought that he chose this over finishing school. Anyhow, each one has their own life to live. We simply respect his decision yet still hoping he could one day finish what he has started at school. He only lacks a few more years.

Hello emjay! I believe we all are the ones making our own paths. It's up to us to decide where to go and which path to take. Decisions can be hard at times but we have to make it for our own selves. Call center is just there and people who can do the job goes for it cause by doing this, money can be achieved easily rather than any other jobs which pays just minimum. Well, it doesn't matter if their course isn't in line with being in a call center as long as they are happy and loving their job and having the opportunity to develop themselves, it is still okay. It's just up to them whether how long they will be in that industry or so.

I was a call center agent but then I lose my job. We all know that the Call Center Industry is one of best job producing jobs here in the Philippines. You are paid very well.I am also one of the professionals who holds a degree but I prefer to work in a call center industry. As of this moment we must be pragmatic. I choose for a job that can provide foods on the table.
