Do you think the type of tv or movies
you watch effects your mind?
I have been thinking about this for a while
now. It seems I am drawn to darker types of
shows and programs. I do like other types but
I find myself going back to the darker ones.
By darker shows I mean ones on crimes and the
super natural.
I know we don't have a lot of choice because
this is the types of shows that are popular
and so they make more of them.
I have decided to listen to more music or have
quiet time reading or doing nothing at all. I
think the mind needs a break from all of that.
What are your thoughts?

My mind takes a break from other things by watching CSI or other shows like that. I know it´s not reality so I take it as a way to relax. I have my own choice when I read. Now I´m very interested in India, so I´m reading some novels from indian writers. Some other times I´m interested in other subjects and I let my mind drift into that.

Fairly yes for me, it affect my mind especially if the said movies maybe happening for real and if that movie said to have a part 2 episode or a mystery ending.
When we are watching TV, we really enjoy the time to release our stress and have that relaxation mode. Especially, if the movies are of much interest and has a connection in our lives.
If you are going to think of it, Why is it easier for us to recall such series and lines in our favorite movies rather than memorizing or recalling such lesson in our class during school days? THis is because, TV has that great visualization effects, contributions in our own interests and awareness of happenings around us. This is the effect of able to visualize than in school that tend us to imagine those of not our interest but a must for us to learn and be educated.

I think that the television can indeed effect our mind, and psychology studies has shown this to be the case in the past. It had been shown that children who watched violent television shows were more likely to be violent later on in their lives. This is because when we see violence as part of our every day life, we learn that violence is normal and not something to be upset by. The less we are upset, the more likely we are to be violent because we just don't see it as a big deal at all. Something should be done about it, really.

TV has become addictive for many people. I think that some movies or tv shows are educative, but most of them are not. TV makes you think less, it just gives you information and that's it. It can also create behavioural models, which are not always good. I quit watching tv long ago. I prefer some other ways to entertain myself (reading, browsing the internet, going out with friends etc.)

Hi Joni... I too have a like for the darker ones. I also like comedy shows. Generally, TV doesn't affect my mind... I mean I watch the shows and forget them... LoL..
I like to watch crime investigations shows, adventurous shows etc.
F. R. I. E. N. D. S. has been my favorite series so far... :-)

I think tv and movies effect your mind a lot. If you watch enough of a certain genre you start to think that is how life is or is supposed to be. I too like all of the crime shows and have noticed that now I don't trust people. I think everyone is breaking the law. I think that is why there is so much violence, teenagers watch a lot of violence and seem to think that is the norm.
