I am thinking about living in an RV and traveling from town to town in the U.S. I have read many things about traveling on the road. And, places to work and park for free. Have you ever done this or know someone who has? What advice would you like to share on making money while living on the road? Would you live in an RV?

Many years ago I had neighbors who would take their RV south for the winter. They would park it in New Braunfals, Tx. I believe. They would then go pick crops, usually apples. They did not live there all year, and I do not think it was free, but there were a lot of people who would go year after year to the same place and it was like a little community. I would have and keep too much junk, I am afraid. I had an acquaintance who would transfer from one Wal Mart to another and live in an RV and work in Wal Mart. Her hubby would go to flea markets and such.

OMG I can't believe I came upon this post. I've done that with my family, lived in an RV and traveled and I only have one major point to make- IT IS A BLAST! It's so fun and exiting and cool, and you get to see new places, and you pretty much live on junk food, and you meet new people, and it's just all kinds of fun. Uh one thing I would like to warn you about, although it seems kind of inappropriate, is don't let the bathroom in the RV get bad, keep tons of air freshener in their. Once it gets bad it's almost impossible to make nice again. Another thing is for a few bucks you can stop at a truck stop and shower. it's not a bad way to stay fresh, and just for the record, truckers can be some of the coolest, most loyal, most interesting people you'll ever meet. Also a dollar store/dollar general will be your best friend. buying snacks and drinks and such there is so much cheaper than buying those items at other places. And trust me, it can be very expensive to live on the road, so count every penny and spend your money wisely, don't waste it. And another thing, invest in a nice sleeping bag, big and warm, they're great for RV's. Living in an RV for a year is probably one of the coolest things you can do, and one of the cheapest ways to see the country. I hope you do get to enjoy that experience, have fun, and good luck!

I have my travel trailer picked out but trying to convince hubby.
I would prefer to live in something smaller myself. We presently live in a doublewide with 3 bedrooms 2 baths and with my disabilities it gets harder on me to keep it all clean. Of course HE never cleans. He works 4 days a week and sits on his butt watching me work the other 3.
To me an RV is the same as renting an 1 or 2 bedroom apt.
there is tons of storage under the RV front and rear, and lots of hiding places (under the bed, under the booths). It makes sense to me. But my husband is one of those people that thinks he has gold in his land, Personally I could not take care of a 1/4th acre lot. So if my hubby ever passed an RV would be my permanent change.
Check out this site. I found out about it when talking to a couple that had their RV set up in one of our local state parks.
The lady also said there is a mail service for people that RV that if you know where you are going and staying for a bit you can have your mail forwarded wherever you wanted.
Good luck if you give this a try and here is the link,
