Here in the Philippines, our staple food is rice. I know in India, it is also and so is Japan.
But I don’t eat rice always. I try to trim down my rice intake because I noticed it makes my tummy big.
At breakfast, I would eat oatmeal instead. And sometimes at night, instead of rice I eat bread to go with my viand.
My most favorite way rice is cooked is fried rice. I like it with bits of toasted garlic, fried egg and some green onions and peas. Whenever we eat in a restaurant , I would always order fried rice.
But it’s a good thing, I don’t like eating boiled rice with my viand. At least it reduces my chance of getting big .

hmm..
for me i do not also eat a lot of rice.
i would only have half the serving for a number of viand.
that's because i fear of gaining weight too!
lol! we are too conscious with our figure Simplyd.
which i guess is healthy.
i love eating fried rice too but i think it has more carbohydrates than the boiled one since you get to add oil in it.

The oil adds fat to the carbohydrates of the rice. But since fat is not good for the health, we should use Canola oil in frying as well as in frying our rice. Oh, i really love fried rice , shane! I also love garlic rice !
That way, we are sure that we are still healthy. It's nice to eat healthily , right shane? You are more or less assured of a healthy & longer life. Besides, our figure will always remain on the medium built size, not XXL as jean Chen is.

right! that's the word.. fats!
i love eating fried rice too Simplyd.
whenever we have "bajao"-that's the term we use in our dialect to refer to the left over rice. i would want that fried.
it's because i do not eat cold rice.lol
i am so "maarte" i do not eat left over rice.lol
maybe because i feel it's unhygienic once it has passed meal time.
yes, that i agree Simplyd.
and i double agree to keep our body in same shape and never be like Jean Sy.

Bajao, is that pronounced bahaw, shane? That's what we call our left-over rice too, here in our province. I would usually make them into fried rice.

Cooked rice is also our staple food.I beg to differ,my friend. Not everyone who takes cooked rice as staple food gets his tummy big,western-style food can also let people get fat.I think the only answer is to eat moderately or less .

Yes, i know that my friend. We should eat rice in moderation and get to exercise to keep our tummy from getting a bulge.

I know that very well my friend. But sometimes, i don't get to exercise anymore because of the hectic schedule of work, so on weekends i would do lots of household chores at home. That compensates for the lack of exercise.
Besides, i do get to always walk in the mall where our office is, to go to the comfort room to pee.

boiled rice is less fattening than anything fried. Bread also is fattening so if you want to cut down you need to know what foods are less fattening. Here in Canada the staple is potato though many people eat rice as a staple as we have people here from every country in the world.

Is potato a staple food? Normally we take less because it causes gas in our body system. We eat more of rice, wheat, vegetables. good day.

My Filipino friends who lives in Canada still eats rice as their staple food. They buy their rice in a Filipino store. There are lots of Filipinos in their place, that's why.
So, since potato is your staple food, i presume you had it as mashed potato, winterose?

Hi Simplyd, same like you, i like to eat fried rice more than the other types of rice. I think fried rice is very delicious. But, recently i am trying not to eat too much white rice. As i know, eating white rice can makes us grow fat. We should eat more brown rice than the white rice. But the brown rice is more expensive than the white rice. So, usually, i will go for oatmeal, whenever i felt i am not really that hungry. Trying my best, to cut down my consumption of all the fattening food.

Simplyd, same goes for my mother, too. Because she is a diabetic, too. In fact brown is also good for those who want to lose the extra pounds. Now, i am also trying to eat more brown rice than the usual white rice. Because i heard from my village's friend, eating more brown rice is much better than the white rice, since it is more on the fiber side.

Yes, i also know that. But then, brown rice seemed to block my throat when i eat it.
And besides, it's so expensive.

Lately, after having a bout of flu, i was trying to regain my strength. People told me that i lose weight and it doesn't suit me.
So, here i am trying to gain some pounds i lose, minus the tummy. So, i try to eat more viands but lesser rice. But as to fried rice, i get to cook it only during weekends. When i able to eat it, i cut down on viands. It think it's compensated that way.
yes, brown rice is expensive , but my father who is a diabetic eats it for his diet.

I think we have that also here in our province. It's wrapped in a cone shaped banana leaves and when cooked the coconut milk seems so sticky and yummy. I like eating it with grated cheese or cheezwis.

Your diet seems to be ok. If we have more walking and keep ourselves busy one may not become fat. Oatmeals I also like. But we normally take more of rice-- with sambar, rasam and curd.
good day.

Hi Ravi, indeed by spending more time into walking activity, is also a good way to trim down our body fat. Recently, i had moved to another new place where, i needs to walks a lot. I do see myself had trimmed down a few kgs because of walking a lot.
I don't really like to eat boiled rice as well. Because it is tasteless and we will need to eat with the combination of many dishes to makes it tasty.

That's true myfb. If i eat boiled rice, usually i would like a saucy food. I put some of the sauce in my rice to make it more tasty.

Actually, whenever i have eaten more than i should, i compensate it by walking around the mall , where our office is, during lunch break.
Besides, i am not that fond of eating boiled rice.

In china, since the country is so large, and people in some parts of the country use rice as staple food, while others use flour as their staple food. Rice produced in south China has much worse taste than their counterpart in north China. This is because the period of growth of rice in north China is much longer, therefore contain much more nutrition. So i like eating the rice produced in north part of the country. and i like eating food made from flour, for example, dumplings.

So CHina is divided in eating rice as their staple food.
So, why don't those farmers plant the delicious type of rice? It's for their benefit and for other people?
Hmm, i like dumplings too, but i would want some rice to pair with that.

Instead i would always eat bread in lieu of rice. It's always handy at home.
I really would like to eat just veggies. But my mouth seems not to get used to just eating veggies .

Hi,
You are right. Rice is a staple food in India also. But I also don't like to eat rice more. I like to eat chapati. My favorite food is chapati with vegetables, chutney, salad with curd and curry. I eat very less quantity of rice everyday. I am from Maharashtra state. We prepare simple dal, pour it on rice, add some ghee and lemon juice on it. It is very delicious. I like to eat it.

Oh yes, people in India do eat rice too. Also people from Asian countries do have rice as their staple food.
What is chapati my friend?
