Even if the papers weren't checked yet I know I failed.. And it is a major subject too- I am really scared because the teacher is strict in giving points and I didn't even finish everything. It is a programming test and I had a hard time figuring out what to do and my code was so short... I will just try harder next time, I hope this makes up for my failing test now.

It is not because a code is short that it is not good... except if you are paid for lines of code. It shows you that you have to do an effort to succeed. Don't be discouraged or scared : it is only a first test, and a little alarm, but an alarm is often helpful to make adjustment.

yeah, that is what my teacher said is one of the reasons why people fail her class, they get discouraged.. which made me a little scared since i get discouraged easily sometimes.. I don't really know where to ask help from since I don't really understand well if I ask help from my classmates..

People learn more from their failures than their passes, you tend to remember the things you failed in more, maybe things won't be as bad as you think but I know how you feel I was no good at school, I failed a lot. Good luck my friend.

Thank you- I really need it this semester. I hope I do learn things from it, and I know the right answer so I would know what to do next time.. Programming is quite hard since it requires so much analysis and thinking fast, which I lack in sometimes.

This is just one more lesson that you will learn from. Stay positive, have a good attitude...you are trying at least which is more than many people do.
This exercise/test will show you where your strengths and weaknesses are...that's a valuable lesson. Cheer up...there are more positives here than you realise. Have confidence.

It's good to have a strict teacher, assuming they are good at teaching. Programming is very hard. It's very difficult to be good at it, and harder to be excellent.
I went to school to be a programmer myself. I have a high respect for people who can make a program, and have it work correctly, and do what you want it too.
However, there is one thing I wish someone had told me when I was a student. I'm 34 now, and I am not a programmer.
I went to school for 3 years. I failed out of my programming class. But I was so desperate to be a programmer, and thought that was what I'd do, I went back again, and failed again. And I tried a third time. I spent hours in the labs. I was there in the morning, and was there in the evening, and I was there on the weekends. Working, coding, programming, trying to do what I was supposed to.
And failed out a third time.
Instead of people telling me I should find something I was good at, they only encouraged me to work harder and work harder and work harder.
So here is my advice. If you can do it, then do it. Go for it, and be the best you can. But if you really can't do it... don't beat yourself up. Don't get depressed and ruined because this specific thing isn't your strong point.
Just move on to something you can do. I wasted 3 years, and many shed tears, over something I was simply never able to do. Don't do what I did. There is something you are good at, if this is it great, if not just... move on with your life.

Hello lady1993. Cheer up. It is just your first test, you still have the whole semester to prove yourself to your professor. Just take this a challenge for you to do better next time. Good luck to you.

I'm sorry, I know that has to be hard to deal with, but since this is your first test, just relax and double up on your studying so by the time you take the next test, you will be prepared..

Your discussion here reminds me of a few years back when my daughter was about to graduate from high school. She was so emotional and worried. Wailing about how she is failing. I asked her what she was failing in. She said everything, all her subjects she is failing in. When her final report came she had all A+'s except one A-. I asked her i thought you said you were failing in everything. She just turned red and said it felt like it.
I hope yours turns out better than what you think. Best wishes!

When I got to a place in my life where tests were very important I took a class in how to take tests, It was well worth the effort and I think everyone past the 5th grade should take this class it would make their lives so much calmer. Nothing can take the place of study but there are many ways to help yourself take a test.

You need to be confidence into yourself, my friend. Confident is one of the core of passing the exam or anything...
Even if the Teachers or professor strict on their way to teach student. This must not be weaken you. Do your part as student...review, review and review...to past all the exams.
Make that terror professor to be your challenge in your studies...

I know exactly what you are going through, this semister I am taking two different investment classes and they are driving me crazy. I am really having a difficult time understanding some of the concepts and/or equations. It seems like everytime I feel confident I did a good job on an assignment it turns out that there are certain parts I didn't quite comprehend. No matter how many times I read the material, I still don't quite get the grasp for it. Unfortunately, with my classes this semister, there aren't any make ups at all. But hopefully they let you do a make up or extra credit to bring that grade back up.
Good Luck!!!

Do not be afraid when you fail but I do not encourage that you will always be brave to be on that situation. Try to study harder. Failure only teaches you to focus more, it is also an experience to be shared to your kids when the time comes when you already have. There are many who became successful in their career with those failures as part of their memories. It is part of ups and downs just do not quit but keep on trying. Do not hesitate to approach those who can help you solve your problem, let them teach you to understand, find ways to accommodate more learning. Anyway, grades do not only depend on one criteria but divided into different areas and so try to make up to where you are at your best for example recitations, quizzes,
presentations,reporting,etc.

You probably aren't the only one that failed. I wouldn't be too hard on yourself for now. I think as you know what is expected you will be better prepared. Good luck next time.

I've been through that hard test in programming. Indeed making a program is very hard. That is the very reason why I shifted to another course. In programming, it is important to analyse the flow of the program and the proper usage of codes. I hope you will do better next time.

I hope that you score better than you think you have. A lack of self esteem may make you feel as you will not score very high. I bet it is better than you think it is. I am sure that everyone get a failing grade occasionally. Just push to do better next time. Good luck to you!

Eventually you would realize the do's and dont's in your current student life and I believe you learned your lesson very well. You would never forget that event in your life. There's nothing wrong about failing as long as you work hard for it. It would be wrong if don't start doing right for it.

I'm so sorry to hear that lady1993 but you must think positive. Did you study very well for that test? If you didn't now you know your lesson. If you are prepared for the test then you should sit back and be calm.
