Bitter about God? Bitter about religion? Why?

There seems to be some who are bitter about God or religion. They could very well quote Bible verses, and even explain well what they know about God. They claim to be 'like this' and at the same time is way out of league. I know one or two who have gone through bad experiences during the time when they thought they knew God and would have been eager to serve Him if not for the betrayal of their faith, been set or framed up by friends causing them to be put to jail, or the ones(leaders) they have been looking up to have put them down. So many painful things made them wanted to take revenge on Someone Who they thought is fake, causing them to be bitter about God and find ways to twist the truth. Deep inside I know that they are just hurting and the more they vent out their anger to God or to the people who believe in Him, it help ease that pain they have.
For the rest who just wanted to fight for their beliefs, not minding whether they are being offensive and would not even have respect for other human beings, I just wonder why. But each individual has their own life, beliefs, choices, etc. And we don't know everything there is in life or in the world. So don't get bitter when someone else is more knowledgeable than you, or more spiritual than you, or more atheist than you, or more gifted than you.. Life is really a mystery :)
Cheers everyone!

I think people who keeps on denying God should be more concerned on finding ways to improve their lives rather than relentlessly disproving the existence of God. If you come to think of it, human miseries and sufferings are man made. Humans should be humble enough to admit that our capacity to ascertain the ultimate truth is miserably inadequate.

I am bitter about religion because it is the root of oppression and the cause of countless wars. Gay children are cast out from their homes and left homeless, or sent to camps that will tell them how wrong and bad they are- children. Women are made to cover up their bodies and faces, raped, forced to be the slave of their husbands, not allowed to get an education or seek a career. It has nothing to do with "wanting to get revenge".
No, I think that you are mistaken when you think that atheists "are just hurting and want to vent out anger". Even if God were real, I would not worship, nor even befriend, such a hypocritical, jealous, vengeful being.

Opps, no offense meant, but this is in general, not just atheists, although there are those who have become one because they become bitter or disappointed. There are still those who believe in God or in other deities but have turned their backs away from Him or from some gods they believe in, and some jump from religion to a religion, depends on whatever reasons they have. I am aware of so many religions this world has today, and yes somewhat I agree that religion has causes so many oppression and countless wars, but not all religions have the same beliefs. It just depends on the individual to search which one has the truth in it and where his/her convictions are.
Thanks for the response, sketch!

An atheist is a person that does not believe in God. Being angry at God or religion can't make someone not believe, so this is not the reason. Their disappointment in religion leads them to question why, if there is a god, he would allow such horrible things to happen in this world and why he would allow so many of these things to happen in his name. It is this type of questioning, rather, that leads them to become atheists.
I personally have never met anyone who believes in any god or deity and has turned their back on him/her/them. Have you? I wonder if it really is possible. I know that I said that even if I had believed, I would not worship him, but I am wondering if the way of thinking that would support such beliefs could also support the idea that a god is not perfect. Every theist that I have met has told me that their god is perfect and without flaw, regardless of what examples I use from their religious texts that suggest otherwise.

Also, what do you mean that they claim to be "like this" and yet it is "out of their league"? I have no idea what you are saying here.

I can relate to much of what you have written in your discussion. I find it interesting that you would post reference about people going to jail. Or even being set up by "friends" or those in a higher position. I know more about this than I wish to know. Life truly is a mystery. And we will have to wait to know more when we meet our maker. Its really sad whats happening to our human compassion that was once a bit more invested in just doing the right thing no matter what your beliefs are.

I was referring to one INC member who once so strongly believed and defended his faith. But when he was framed up, his companions during that time that they were doing their routine house to house visit left him to be beaten, arrested and then put to jail. His family said he was innocent of such thing but things went out of control. That man became bitter, got angry to God and to his fellow INC followers. So it's just sad when things happen that way. There are so many religions, sects, denominations, beliefs in the Philippines. When one is flawed, the others are affected, so you are correct when you said in your other comment that we should read the Bible, of course pray, too, to know more and to discern the truth.
Thanks again, lady!

Some people are bitter with God because they thought that he was the cause of all the bad things and sufferings. BUt he is not the cause. Humans have to blame also for much of the sufferings. In the book of Job in the Bible proves that the sufferings experienced by the righteous man Job were inflicted not by God but by God's enemy, satan the devil. God later blessed Job for his integrity. Now we experience sufferings but God has provided us a way out, a comfort, through the principles he set in his word. We can also approach him in prayer and ask for help. He is not far from each of us.
Also, not all religion represent God. Those who professed to know God disown him through their works. God approves those who worship and serve him according his will.

Yeah, they blame God for every negative or bad things that happen to them, but they don't give God the credit when they are doing well and good. Nice of you to cite Job as an example cause it's true that we learn much from him.
Thank you for sharing a very helpful response.

One thing that could make you compare yourself to another is pride.
If we are humble enough to accept ourselves as is, there will be no cause for bitterness, because you won't think of comparing yourself to anyone "more" than what you are. You are contented of what you are , and who you are, so why would you compare yourself to others.

My personal view is that, God and religion are to be treated as your personal property. Having said this, its up to you if you wanna make it public or keep it private. What I'm trying to say is that, your relationship to God is yours and yours alone. No one has to right to question it, modify it, influenced you on how you will handle it. You can listen to what other people will say or to what your religion is preaching you, but at the end of the day, its your judgment, whether to follow it and practice it in your spiritual state,or just pick whatever suits your beliefs. Respect they say, most of the times are earned not given, but I think,in matter of your faith in God or religion, it must be automatically given. Respect one's faith and be blessed!
