As you already know, many products we used before which were popular once upon a time, like those video cassette, and audio cassette; floppy drive; beeper; etc.... all were replaced with new gadgets, new devices, and eventually they became extincted like dinosaur in the face of Earth. So, what is your prediction on the next few years, which of those nowadays popular items might also be extincted entirely? What do you think of DVD, it might be replaced by large capacity of Blue - Ray; what about those GPS unit, they can replaced by our cell phone service, or hand held tablet. When you come to think of these, do you have any idea which one of these gadget might also be extincted?

Horses were important to the economy, and worked for over 200 years before the Tractor and Automobile made them redundant, but there are more Horses in America today than ever before. Horses will never become extinct. Vinel records have been stacked in favor of cassettes and DVDs but now some stores are stocking them again. Vinel is making a comeback!
Who says old is obsolete? Old is Gold!

Thanks for this discussion. The technology is developing and day by day the development may be invention or discovery.Discovery leads to minimizing the device and give it a new name, which is again a extinction of the old devices.Invention gets discovered one day in new form and gets extincted..Good luck.

Certainly more things will become outdated before long. The driver is that companies want to create a new fad with marketing and make you believe that you need the latest and greatest toys. All the features and capabilities (which in many cases are plenty) of the current toys will become meaningless. We only have eyes for the new things. Only thing in the way, is that some people, like myself, cannot afford the new toys.

The house phone if it is not already extinct it is an endangered species. There is no need for it everyone uses their cell phone all the time and the house phone is just an extra bill and something that takes up space in the house. It makes no sense to have one but people still use them and have a cell phone its crazy. The house phone must go!!

I was sure that all kind of those stuff would be going to die or extinct someday. It is just a matter of time. I think only human fills the earth until the time of destruction of the planet earth. I am very sure of my statement, no doubt.

I agreed to all that previous responses. We have to accept that our world continues to evolve . There is no such thing as permanent, specially in technology. Everything is a fast evolving device :))

The technology is innovating in a very rapid pace. SO it would be best if you don't splurge to a gadget that you knew will be obsolete in a months time. Maybe DVDs will become obsolete not because of blu ray but there are also free downloadable movies in the internet. :p

I think DVD's are going to be there next year. Blueray disk and blueray players are still too expensive for people to afford to get one right away. Probably 3 years from now once the price of the blueray player and disk are no longer as high. Those things are really predicatable. New technology are developed to replace the existing one and this is just how it is.
