Hello myLot friends.
Train travel is an integral part of our lives. We all have some very interesting experiences associated with train journeys. Some incident, some interesting people met, some anxious times, fast & slow trains, attractive landscapes en route and many many experiences.
My best & the most memorable experience of train travel are the round tour of south & north India during study tour. The journey by a small, slow speed toy train to a hill station Ooty from a foothill town Mettupalyam [Nilgiri passenger] is the most memorable to date. The train moves a little faster than our walking speed & one can hop on & off. The train route has some of the best landscapes all along its route. People having fun all the way on the journey was the icing on the cake.
There is also some philosophical association life with train journey.
What are your experiences with train travel?

I would love to experience travelling by train too! 'Though I haven't. The only train rides I have are within the city. I haven't really tried one where you spend days in the train going to a really far place.

I would recommend you to do it, at the first opportunity you find! It is indescribable experience and you'll reminisce it for years. There are three fascinating high altitude trains, all associated with hill station tours in my country. You may explore any one of them, if you happen to visit India!
Not to under estimate even travel within city also has its charm and associated experiences.

I would love to go on a tour in a train where I can see beautiful mountains Well, in my country it's not really nice to travel in train. Although it helps us to go from here to there as quickly as possible, we don't look out and view the place much. Maybe we're used to how the city and roads looked.

Don't really ride trains, it's airplanes and cars for my main source of travel. I do remember when I was younger and rode the bullet train in Tokyo. It was a neat experience, but it felt more like a subway because it was so packed. I enjoy your train stories and hope to someday travel in one.

Life is like a train ride and we know the station we begin at. I like the attractive looking scenery by the side of the tracks. Sometimes life is busy therefore it is similar to a fast train and at some times it is slow like a relaxing holiday. I live within walking distance of a train station. Going by train is my favorite way to travel and traveling is one of my top hobbies. I traveled around Europe by train when I was 18 years old. I went on an Inter Rail Pass and stayed in dorms at youth hostels. I went in some sleeper bunks on overnight train journeys in Sweden, Malaysia, Kenya and Australia. In New Zealand I went on some scenic trips by rail. One day I hope I will travel all the way by train from Moscow to Beijing. I would need visas for Russia, Mongolia and China. Therefore it would be an expensive trip to do.

Hello maximax: That's a lot of train travel transcontinental. . Like your description of fast & slow trains as applied to life. Do you recollect any one memorable incident from among all your train journeys as very interesting? Just curious to know because you have traveled so extensively and know many cultures!

A train is my favorite way to travel. I find it very relaxing and the scenery is usually pleasant. But, I have learned my lesson about going a long distance on a high-speed train. I had a serious case of motion sickness. From now on, I will get off the train just before dark, spend the night in a hotel, and continue my trip the next day on another train.

Oh yes, there are instances of people not being able to stand a particular type or time of travel. It depends on individual constitutions. But in many cases, such problems are cured with some medical help. Have you tried seeking help from doctors to overcome this. Because night travel usually saves valuable time.

Hello Pushhyarag2000,
I like travelling in train as while travelling we can see the natural things which we normally don't see in our towns.I remember when i used to study in college i used to travel DELHI~MANMAAD every 5~6 months to come home from college and you know it was so nice to see rivers, forests in the way I remember we always used to get excited when we used to hear the name of CHAMBAL valley when we were child but in the way CHAMBAL valley and the Chambal river were the 2 most beautiful things worth to see.I always think travelling by train is much better than travelling by a plane.

sjvg1976: I too had traveled that sector going to New Delhi on a long distance train. But those days, it used to be a scare with Chambal valley dacoity in Madhya Pradesh. But other than that it was an enjoyable travel especially with a small group of people traveling together having fun all the way.

Pushyarag -- our life itself is like a train travel. We all travel in life train travel along with others. When the station comes we have to get down from the new train and new people (children) get in.
Regarding train travel -- Siliguri to Darjeeling hills --similar to Mettupalayam -Ooty --I remember travelling it in 1978. I also remember the travel to Varanasi, Chandigarh, Kanyakumari --these places for pilgrimage.

True. Many novels, movies and short stories portray the approach comparing life with train travel. Another high altitude heritage train with a long history & more than 100 tunnels on route is the Kalka-Shimla mail. I happened to travel on that too. It is too spell binding.
