These are two excellent ways to protect yourself from the Sun's harmful rays. My personal experience is for six weeks I wore sunscreen everyday. It was very greasy/oily for my skin. I stopped bcause after reading all the labels I thought to myself "Is all these chemical really okay to put on my skin?"
I have wore sun protective clothing like long sleeved shirt, long pants, hat and sun glasses. It was good but a bit hot in the summer months.
Which do you prefer or do you like both?

It depends on where I am.
I am not having a sunburn easily to I don't use any cream for sun protection.
I use oil or petroleum oil something like that to prevent my skin from drying out since I have a very dry skin.
I also seldom feel warm so if I am somewhere where I might get a sunburn (or more likely: the musquito's might attack me too) I wear clothes. Long dresses/skirts till the floor and long sleeves.
