I was pondering about this just a while ago and i still don't know the answer. I figured you guys will help me .
What is God's name? Is it God? Is God's name God? Is God a title like Lord? or perhaps it's just what God wants us to call Him so that we won't be able to say His name in vain. But it says somewhere in the Bible that if we break one commandment, we break *all* of the commandment so what's the point. So any of you have some insight in this. Enlighten some poor souls in here please.

God is not a name but a title. Just like doctor, teacher, son - these are all titles. You probably agree that every doctor or teacher has personal name. No one in this world has no name. Look at around you all people, animals, plants, stars, planet and even things have names. Is it logical to think that God has no name who created all these things? Surely not.
The Bible says that the name of God is Jehovah (Psalm 83:18) but other translations use the name Yahweh, the Hebrew name of God. These two both refers to Jehovah. The name Jehovah appears 7,000 time in the original Hebrew Bible but some of the translators mistakenly decided to remove the name of Jehovah with thse two reasons: 1.) they do not know the proper pronounciation of the name Yahweh or YHWH. 2.) they mistakenly understood the law of Jehovah in Exodus 20:7 that the name of Jehovah should never be used in a worthless way. Take note the word worthless way. If we pray to God and utter His name is that worthless? Truly not but the translators misunderstood this and remove the name of Jehovah in the Bible.
Former apostles used the name of Jehovah and even Jesus knew very well the imprtance of the name Jehovah. In Mathew 6:9, Jesus said that let your name be sanctified. So how could we sanctify it if we do not use it in worthy ways? Let's put it this way: How would you feel if a person calls you just a man and never uses your name although that person knew your name? Isn't it like a big insult making you feel that you are not even worthy to be called by your name? Isn't it the our name is always the music to our ears? Likewise the name of God is by far more important than our names.
Hope this could enlighten your soul. Read and study the Bible, you will learn more. I'm happy to share with you this teachings from the Bible.

I suppose that would depend on your religion, wouldn't it.
first of all though, God is not a name, it's more like a job description. whatever religion you follow, you can refer to your deity as God or Goddess, if you so choose. in polytheistic pantheons, all deities are Gods, so it's not a name.
in my own path, I do not assign names to my Gods, and probably won't ever, unless they let me know a name they wish to be known by.
but the way I see it, they are the creative forces of the Universe, who existed before language. how could they have a name, and what person would consider themselves important enough to name the force of life itself?

Please look at the reference King james version:
Psalm 83:18 That people may know that you, whose name JEHOVAH. You alone are the most high overall the earth.
Jeremiah 10:10- But Jehovah is the truth God.He is living God and the king to time indifinite.Because of his indignation the earth will rock, and no nations will hold up under his denunciation.
Exodus 6:2,3- And God went on to speak to moses and to say to him: I am Jehovah. And i use to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God almighty, but as respects my name Jehovah I did not make myself known to them.
Isiah 42:8- I am Jehovah. That is my name; and to no one else shall i give my own glory, neither my praise to graven images.
Hope these verses could help your discussions!!!

i've actually thought about this since there is so many gods when it comes to myths and legends. you could also say the same for lord as people have been known to be called lord so and so depending on who it is. i personally prefer to call God the Creator since it brings more clarity.

God is the name.In Genesis 1:1 Mention there God created all things..Meaning there is no other God you can call but Him alone..
He is Lord of Lord.Meaning He is the highest of any lords, gods etc..
He is Jesus ,He call Jesus because a savior ,who came in this Earth..
He is the Holy Ghost ,every believer accepted Jesus as their Lord and savior is zealed by the Holy Ghost and not Satan!
