How do you get rid of procrastination in your system?

I am often a workaholic. I can do multitasks. However, recently, I find myself not being my usual workaholic self. I feel lethargic, stressed out/burned out and even though I have a lot of things to do, I'd do it the last minute. I also need additional income and I know I can find part-time, home-based jobs but my body refuses to work. I feel unmotivated and LAZY.
I want to get out of this present state. My mind is telling me to stop procrastinating but my spirit is weak. There are times when I am tempted not to go to work but change my mind to the last minute, which is why I have many tardy records recently.
My fellow myLotters, what do you do at times like this?

I know that feeling all too well. Usually it hits me after I've overworked myself for too extended of a time, so I realize I just need to give myself a while to recover and slow down before I can start to charge ahead at the same rate I was going at. It's good to have a bit of a break in order to gain my spirits back. Sometimes, though, that isn't possible, so I trudge forward at a snail's pace and take a lot of breaks during my tasks.

I guess we all need to recharge our energies from time to time. I just hope I have a fast charger for my system.

Boy, do I know what you mean! Lately, I have been going through some very rough times, emotionally, financially, and physically. I have not felt like myself at all. Normally, I am motivated to accomplish a lot in a day, but lately, I can't seem to get anything done at all. I have found that I begin to pull myself out of my slump, and then I get knocked back down even deeper.
Normally, when I find that I am beginning to feel a bit unmotivated, I am able to regain mny notivation by making myself some smaller goals and working my way back up to those bigger goals. After about a week, I am normally back to my old workaholic self. I guess, for me, it sometimes takes slowing down and seeing what I really have accomplished to get that motivation back.

It is nice to know that there are also others who experience things the same way. I hope I'll be able to get out of this state of mind soon. Thanks for the reply!

If you are not to your self , then you are not enjoying what you are doing .. enjoy what you wanna do then you dont have to do it forcefully ..it just happens .. Or convince yourself strongly why you need to do it .. Thats it !

Hi Soniasony! I love my job but lately I feel just not into it. I know I need to do my work... it's the convincing part that's hard to do.

I think you should get a physical checkup.
Many times there are reasons behind such
abrupt behavioral changes.
I used to be able to pull myself out when I
got like that but then I came to a day when
I could no longer go on. And I had to quit
work. I hope this is temporary for you.

I used to be really big on procrastination and today I still am but I discovered anew method that would help me complete tasks in a timely fashion! I now make To-Do Lists because then I am aware of the tasks that need to be done, I complete them in any order I please, and at the end of the day, I end up completing every element I had originally composed my list with!

I was like that before. just because i don't feel like working anymore. What i did i took a whole week off and went home to my province. from there i relaxed and enjoyed simple life style. to my amazement, i miss my daily routine and the city style. so there, i was up and moving again.
tip: take a break! =p

I really want one. Good thing we're near the holiday season. I might get the break I need.

Procrastination is a tough one and I also struggle with it.
One thing that might help is this: When you see that you are avoiding doing a task you should be doing, ask yourself why? There is the reward and satisfaction of a job completed if you just do it, so why are you fighting it? Two possible reasons are lack of focus due to many distractions and fear of failure.
Another idea (also suggested by others), is to make a list of even small goals. Complete a task that takes 15 minutes, and then enjoy the sense of accomplishment. It might just give you the motivation to try something else.

I must admit that over the time i have also had that lazy bone in me especially if i haven't waken up properly, i would most likely not like to work throughout the day and will be very lazy. haha but there are of course many days that i would not procrastinate, i like working my time to its full capacity and then if i get to finish most of my task, i would then be free to do anything else. :D

Oh i know exactly how you feel. I have to study for a test And I am no where near it. I keep putting it off and that's not good. I am so close to the end and I need a good grade so right now it is crucial for me to study but I can not get my brain to make me move. So I'll end up cramming all the information in my brain like a idiot and god knows how I will do!

I work from home at the moment, and I have done since early 2009. Procrastination used to be a huge problem for me, because I would do anything to avoid doing work, but then this meant that I would have to stay up until the early hours of the morning in order to finish the work that I should have done during the course of that day. However, I soon learned that it was much better to get everything done, as it was more fun to do what I wanted to get done when I knew that I didn't have any other work that needed to be done; it was much more stress free that way.

hello,
Actually, this is a natural phenomenon in once life because I also experience this kind of situation. I felt really rush when I only have a last minute and thank god I always do it successfully though I have a lot of laziness time. But all I do in this situation is let my mind think first or rest for a while because I know that I am too exhausted in many work that I should finished and when i have energy again that is the time I will do it.

Thanks for the reply, tiina05! Cramming sometimes helps but not always a good practice because sometimes it becomes obvious that I did the work hurriedly. I mean, quality-wise I know I could do better if I had more time. Hehehe!
