Onme of the biggest problem in the USA is that many kids and teens dont want to study hard cos they dont want to be seen as a nerd and unpopular in school. Unlike in Asia where having good grades will make you popular in campus, its a different case in the US, to fit in, Its the dumb jocks and cheer leaders who are the popular "cool kids" in school.
student who lack work ethic struggles in college or worst cant survive college and it would be bad for the future of the the country for sure.
In the State of Virginia, 2 schools decided to do a system that will make kids forget about the social ladder at school and care about studying instead, Having good grades will be rewarded by incentives, every Grading, all kids with high grades will be rewarded 100 dollars. I dont know if this is going to work but if it works, lots of kids will be motivated to study and at the same time enjoy some cash.
How i wish I was a highschool kid in Virginia.

Wow, what a news
It reminds me of years ago, when I was in elementary school. My teacher was used to give rewards to student who could get a perfect score of 100 in exam. The rewards was only $1, and I ever got it several times. I am not quite sure whether I was happy with the money at that time. But it was a great pleasure by the time you can got something more from your hard effort!

additional allowance is good for sure and that incentive can make the school less boring, Plus you know in the US lots of students trying to avoid having good grades because they think it will make them nerds and not cool.

It's hard to believe that students in US are trying to avoid good grades.. Well, you know, US is so called developed country, so I expect more brilliant students..
But, yeah, by the time I am watching the Hollywood movies, I think I can believe it perfectly..

wow ,,it's really very nice ,,100 dollars..I'd like to study hard too.but why we decide to study hard when we are rewarded? we have never realized if we can study hard and become a excellent student how much money we can learn in the future..

I if this worked for a long term, for sure lots of kids will finally think school is cool. it is disturbing lots of American kids dont study because they dont want to be seen as nerds, this mentality will harm the US economy and we know the whole world depends on their economy.

also they should realized the whole world is dependent on their country's economy and if their country's economy goes through another recession due to the lack of skilled people because of school drop outs, the whole world will suffer.

This could actually motivate some of the kids, especially the poorer ones or those who want to earn extra cash for themselves. But the richer ones probably wouldn't care either ways and would still stick to the normal social "hierarchy" of schools in the US

unless the parents of those rich kids are thrifty. I'm telling you my mom and dad have lots of money when I was young and my allowance at school is damn low. I hope it works though. cos the school culture in the US needs to change,.

Yeah I agree. The current school culture is not exactly something any kid would look forward to.
I wonder where they're getting the money from to reward the children though.

How I wish our locality will do same thing to motivate kids to study harder.
Hmnn...not a bad idea, at least we are sure our taxes are being used wisely...
and not only going to waste- okay their pockets!

Many parents didnt let their kids go to school even if their kids are intelligent because of poverty, if this will be implemented in our country, poverty wont be an excuse anymore.

may be money is a good thing to motivate student study hard ,,but if we can tell them why we reward them ,and lead them now life will reward them better in the future ,,they may persist in studying without reward

those are teenagers and I dont think they will listen, American teenagers intentionally try to have Bad grades cos they think its cool and they dont want to be seen as a nerd.,In American Highschool the athletes and cheer leaders are treated well. while the kids with high grades are bullied. I think they use money to make the kids think its cool.Teenagers dont care about their future you know they were happy go lucky,

This is very good so children have some incentive to school to learn to know and get good results.
why is not the case everywhere.
but this is a great idea.
thanks for this discussion.
nice day!

I think its budget issues, these schools in Virginia might have the budget to run such program while the other schools dont have the funds to do so.

Hope this will improve the educational and social system of those 2 schools in Virginia, if it works, I hope the whole United states will try it.

I don't think so ..the essential problem is not the money we give them ..the idea they hold now make sense

In American schools actually having good grades will make you miserable and a bully magnet, Its the athletic, and pretty kids who gets the popularity.
