Do you forget things easily?

I do. I am not yet old but I easily forget things, like, where I put my cellphone or umbrella (lost 3 already), etc. It's frustrating, for example I thought I laid down my phone on the table, look for it for about an hour only to discover afterwards that it was only in my bag . One day I was thinking of going inside my room to retrieve a book, but when I opened the door I forgot what I was supposed to do. I have to retrace my steps back until I remember what it was. There was also the time I went to town and when I was near my destination I suddenly remember that I haven't taken my purse with me so I have to go back for it. I used to be alert and have a sharp memory but I just noticed recently that I am becoming forgetful. Maybe it's a result of being stressed and having much to worry, whew.
How about you? Are your memories sharp or you forget things easily?

Yes those things are kind of normal for everyone, but what is not normal is me forgetting the names of people i knowa or barely know everytime i talk about them or even talk to them, it's a little bit embarassing and i don't know if i'am the only one that has this problem or is there anyone else like me.

I forget the names of people I just encountered for a brief moment, but not those I've known for a very long time. Sometimes when I go out, I meet a person who would shout and call my name. I response with a smile and say hello also but too shy to ask what's her name or where did I meet her, so embarrassing really.
Thanks, sam, for sharing. Remember you're not alone. Joanna, you're right, let's stay positive. Thanks!

OMG!!!! it seems if I can remember anything these days.
I have looked for my glasses and they were on my forehead,,
I can see a telephone number on the TV and before the
commercial is over I have forgotten your number and I
mean the entire number is gone...
I have been driving and realized there was a stop sign
back there and I don't remember stopping..I know I sound
dangereous but I promise you I am not.
My memory is just sssssooooo bad at times...then there are
times when I can remember incidents that wasn't even
memorable...

I'm not good either with memorizing numbers these days. Even if I memorized it right, I still have to check it if it's correct. It's like I didn't even now trust my memory :(
Oh please don't get absentminded when you're driving. You know it could be dangerous for you or for other people. I think like me, you are also preoccupied with so many things. It's good there are ways we could improve our memory/brain that we could use.
Thanks, bcj, for sharing!

I do. And I have had this memory issue even during my childhood. May be my brain was damaged when I fell down the stairs. Since the onset is when I am really nervous, I think it has something to do with my ability or inability to cope with stress. I too check my keys, and at times, even after checking that the door is locked, I forget. I forget that I paid some bills. Lucky me I pay with checks. So I am safe.

I think nervousness has something to do with forgetting so maybe you didn't damage your brain during that fall. It's really hard to be forgetful, but if we cannot do something to improve our memory or sharpen our mind, then we must learn to cope up with it. But of course, I am hoping and praying that this forgetfulness will be reduced or gone.
Thanks for sharing, vandana.

That's the same problem I was having. In fact, just a few minutes ago I was looking for a paper where I wrote all my passwords. I even told them not to move my things when I left it on the table. But then as I went back to my room feeling furious, I saw the paper behind my pillow Dunno what I'm gonna say tomorrow if they asked me where I found these.

I do blame others sometimes asking them if they took my things without permission, only to find out I was to be blame for forgetting. Anyway, we had a good laugh with that, but it becomes scary if it goes on and on. Got to do something to sharpen my mind. Thanks for the response.

Sometimes for me it's not funny anymore when you are busy overturning things in order to find what you are looking for while the others are laughing. I don't mind them laughing but I get annoyed at myself for easily forgetting. But I do have a good laugh when it's someone's turn to find something when actually it is only just on top of their head - their shades. lol.

Yes.. they will actually laugh at me. Usually when they asked me if I found the things I was looking for and I don't answer... they know I've found it and will start asking me where I have found it. And then they will all laugh at me and will even tease me everytime there are things we couldn't find.

You sound as if you are starting to have the signs of being forgetful. There was a time I forgot to bring my wallet with me so I don't have money to pay for my fare. Good thing I was riding a tricycle so I asked the driver to go back to my place. Forgetfulness can sometimes lead us into trouble :)
Thank you, jdyrj, for the reply.

Hi Neelia, when i was still a student, i remembered that i always forgot where i had put my pen or even pencil. Only when i had tried finding it for several times, then only i am able to discovered it. So usually, i will put my pen or pencil in an area, where i can remembered, after i had used it. After i had practiced a few times, as to remembered, as where i had put my lost items, i feels that my memory is doing fine now. I think my memory had become more alert and sharp, since i started to work. Until now, i think i am not as forgetful as my student years ago. I can always remembered to where i had put all my useful items.

Neelia, through practicing, sometimes we might be able to recollect and sharpen our memory. Everything needs practicing to make perfect.
Lily, it is indeed like a part of our daily life matters especially when we are still a student. Our brain seems unable to handle many matters at the same time. So, lets try to sharpen our brain through some brain storming exercise. Have a nice day to all...

I have been forgetful for many years. Age has brogut me the wisdom to accept it and make lists, do one thing at a time and place important things in only one place, no matter how much in a hurry I am. I began to lose the capacity for doing everything at once before I was 40. At first I blamed it on stress, but now I think that the proccess is more complex.
Have a nice day and happy posting.

Hi Marg, at least you are doing your very best to overcome your problem by doing one thing at a time. And even place your important things only in one place. And i am happy that, at least you still remember to come to Mylot, to do your posting. How is your health now, Marg sister?

Hi friend,
I was away from mylot for over a week as I ended up in the hospital due to a virus I got wwhen my defenses were lower thanks to chemo. But as soon as I had the energy, I came back. That is what I call an addiction.
As for my memory, I was in denial at first, until I thought that the wisest thing to do was to accept it and take the problem into my hands.

It just sounds like you are doing too much and have too many things on your mind, like most of us now! Forgetting where we put things is often the result of the stress and anxiety we now suffer from living in such a frenetic world. We have so much and so many bits and pieces to keep an eye on that we are bound to forget at least one of them!

You are right, Mandolingirl. Forgetfulness gives me headache. I just hope it's nothing serious but just stress and anxiety as you have mentioned. Do you think only women are prone to this?

Depends on what things. Sometimes it happens to me that I go out of my place to go somewhere, just to go back because I forgot my cell phone home, and then I get home and go out again without my cellphone, I forgot it. So sometimes I have memory as short as three seconds. And yet again I remember some stupid meaningless things that happened a few years ago clearly. My memory is strange, sometimes it's sharp, other times I feel like a very stupid person.

Yeah, there are things we forget and there are things that we don't. Maybe the kind of lifestyle we had now dulls our memory and it's frustrating.
Anyway, we should not let it affect our lives and let's stay positive. Thanks for sharing, menzis.

I totally agree, this life must dull our brains, today me and my friend tried to remember something very funny that happened to us a few days ago, we knew it was something funny but just couldn't remember why we were laughing. It took us almost 10 minutes to remember what was the thing about. It really makes you wonder and ask yourself some questions..

I don't have amnesia, just kidding, but I forget things from time to time. I you don't train your brain every day then you can aspect your brain to slow down. Best way to train your brain is by reading books and keep it active as long as possible. Thank you for your concern.

I have always been like that, search for my keys wallet an phone at least once a day. It is terrriable but for me it is beacause I am absent minded and do not alway pay attention to other things when I'am think about something or doing something else. It is natural and should not concern you, but if it is really bad you should consult with your GP just to be on the safe side.

I guess so, it's natural, especially that I've got so many things running on my mind and worrying about this and that. Thanks for the helpful comment, leon.

Believe me, I know how that goes! I have had "old timer's" disease (as opposed to alzheimers) but now I can blame my bad memory on "chemo brain" since I have been in chemotherapy for most of the last two years with a break in the middle...even before that I would have things "slip my mind". I always thought that happened more with age, but it's pretty bad when your mind slips before you are 40! Now I have to write things down or I don't get them right. This is especially true of appointments. And it seems that I have to write them myself or it isn't right. One appointment was written down as 13:40 (1:40) but I didn't see the one at first until after I got a reminder call telling me about it so I almost didn't show up until 3:40! Oh well...we all have problems to deal with! Have a great weekend!!!

Oh sorry about that. I wish we don't have to suffer those things, and if we do I wish there are easy ways to cure them. But thank God we can always trust He knows what He's doing.
I do have a list of things-to-do, too, or things to buy but sometimes I forget about it and end up either frustrated or laughing.
Hope you had a nice weekend, daeckardt!

I do have the same problem of forgetting when I try to tell something or a thing which I placed earlier.
I think this is a symptom of aging in our memory. ha! ha!
I believe this situation will become worse when we are getting older.
At this moment, I am trying to consume sufficient of nutrition daily and to practice my brain by learning new things very often.

There are a few children I have observed who have the problem of forgetting things easily. So it's not only with growing older, maybe stress, unhealthy foods or lack of nutrition are some causes of this. I agree with learning new things always to practice our brains. Thanks for sharing, aeiou!

I have no memory problem except for one thing: where have I parked my car?
Often I walk like a desperate in the streets around my home or my workplace looking for it. Always I'm confused about the place where I parked today or yesterday or day before yesterday and sometimes I think somone has stolen!

i am like you, i forget things easily and it really disturb me for doing my activities. it really annoying.
i don't want to be like this. Many time i ahve to struggle just for find remote tv.
when i have to go test for a job,i have to go back from my destination because i forgot bring the requirements, and it really tiring for me.
for solving this problem,i try to look the cause of this.
i find an interesting article about it,
it is said that, we easily forgot things because we always do something in sameway.
so it makes brain couldn't get the recent information well because brain has the same data before.so when we trying to remind what happen, something that will show in our mind is past data.
for solving this, the article suggest us for doing something uncommon, just the opposite like everyday.
but not always.
and i have tried this one, and it gives me a good impact.

Yeah, it's so frustrating and most of the time forgetting things can be time-consuming. It makes us late for an appointment or work. I think you're right. The brain is full to its capacity that's why it can't absorb additional information causing us to be forgetful. Thanks a lot for sharing, deliar!

Good day neelia_lyn, can I ask you a question before I respond to your discussion topic??? Why do you have the _ between your names, why not a - instead? The reason I ask this is because I see it everywhere here in mylot and so I just wondered why if I am missing the meaning of it or if it is just a very common typo error.
Back to your topic of discussion...I am not having any memory problems yet but I see it with a few of my friends that are the same age as me and we are only 28 years old so I don't think it is always anything to do with age. I am sure it has a lot to do with stress and life style. Stress can do things to people that most people wouldn't even associate with stress. My mother has nerve damage in her ears because of stress and it causes her all kinds of problems with dizzyness.
littlemissy here signing off for now,
talk to you soon my friend

Nice question, littlemissy
Well, it's what I use with my email so I also use it here in my lot. I forget things, you know, so I use _ instead of - because I might have problems logging in. It's the same with my email address so i won't forget.
You are right and am sure that forgetting is one of the symptoms of stress. Even children forget things easily when they are stressed because of school pressures so it has nothing to do with age.
Wow, it's the first time I read about nerve damage in ears because of stress and I have problems with my left ear, too, and I recently felt dizzy as if the ground is moving when it's not. Whew, too much stress these days, I think
Thanks, littlemissy, for sharing. See you around!
