Are there certain things that you buy on your grocery list that have to be a brand no exceptions? I moved in with my parents to help take care of my dad suffering with Parkinson's Disease and that is one thing I layed down the law on. No cheap coffee it has to be either Maxwell House or occasionally Folgers. Miracle Whip or Real Mayonnaise is my choice. No cheap cheese slices. I can do what is on sale but Borden, Kraft or Velvetta is my choice. No cheap bread either. I do not really care what kind but alot of store brands after the first half of loaf the other pieces feel or taste stale which is gross. Note that the rent is half between me and my parents so we have the money for these conveniences. What brand names do you have to have in your refrigerator or cubbard?

I do not really seem to have that issue with name brands. Of course a lot of my shopping is done at a warehouse store where everything is name brand. I like certain things best, like Bush's Baked Beans, Rotel tomatoes, but that is also because I buy them less expensively by the case at Sam's Club, as well as Hormel black label bacon, ready cooked, and bacon bits. I do want Real Bacon Bits not BacO's textured soy protein, red dyed imitation bacon.

I'm with you on the Mayo although for me it has to be Helman's mayo. I also like Wishbone Ranch style salad dressing. No substitutes. Also whenever we buy Sour cream it has to be a name brand. We've tried store brand in the past and although it wasn't that bad it still didn't taste quite the same.

I tried some Kraft mayo the last time I bought and I agree it is not as good or the same as Hellmans. The only store brand I like of the Ranch dressing is the Save-A-Lot brand. I believe it is Portsman. It is pretty good even though not name brand as you would call it.... I do not like store brand Ranch dressing like IGA, Kroger etc though.

I am a bit more flexible on the brands of food. Their are a few things that are important to get name brand. I agree on the coffee brand. The cheese needs to be real cheese not imitation. The hot dogs, mayonnaise, and frozen dinners need to be either lean cuisine or mary callendar.

Everyone is different and it gives interest to me to find out what is most important due to brand name products. One person said something about soap I believe. I do use name brand products in that area but it is whatever is on sale and smells the best.

Hi Hagirl,
I'm not overly picky about the brand so much on certain things but on certain items, I just can't go store brand. The items you listed are all on my list. I would rather go without than to get the store brand of those things. Hotdogs, sandwhich meat and peanut butter...add to that list.

When it comes to food, i am picky. I would always buy the tried and tested delicious ones .
For our oatmeal, it has to be Quaker Oats or Golden Oats. For canned corned beef, but cheaper than the imported ones, it's Purefoods. Even for hotdogs, i prefer Purefoods.
For our cheezwiz, it has to Kraft. For Mayonnaise, it has to Lady's Choice.
I can go on , but what i can say is that when it's foods they have to be the tried and tested delicious brands.
