I'm just sitting next to my step-father and I just can't stand the way he eats his pear, the sound of him munching is just so annoying. I can't also eat with more persons at a table, I just can't stand those sounds people make when they eat food. I hate it so much it disgusts me and I lose my appetite. Do you have any problems with other people eating near you? I hope I'm not the only one with this problem. Also, could you help me somehow to get rid of that horrible feeling, because I always eat in front of the tv or computer and never with my family at the same table, I just can't stand. So if you can, help me please, I'm feeling very rude and impolite when I just walk off the table in the middle of the lunch because I lose my appetite or when I take my plate and go into another room...

Hello there! Meal time is bonding time with family, friends or colleagues. Having meals together with family is so important in our culture and country. Meal time is where family stay together and update each other's lives.
I or each one of us maybe is annoyed by eating habits of other people. What I do is I just concentrate on my food, eat while chatting or sharing stories whenever I have company with me in eating. I'd rather enjoy the food and company. I hope you will do this too because it is so impolite walking out in the middle of meal time.

Hi to you too! I know, I know, lunch times really are the time and place to bond with your family and chat with them, it's not like I see them a lot since they work and I go to school.. I'll try to eat more often with them, concentrate on food and just not walk off the table in the middle of lunch. Thanks for your response :)

Yes it bothers me when people make eating noises. What is even worse is conversation that involves something sick. I've even had tv ruin my meal because my tummy is sensitive and can not eat if something is disgusting. Have you seen the movie "the fly" I was eating ice cream at that time, yuk.
You have told them what you dislike and now it is out in the open but that means it will play on both your nerves. Sometimes you can not change other peoples eating habits.

Speak about that, we eat and then someone starts a really disgusting theme for conversation and then my appetite just vanishes and my meal is ruined. And about tv I know exactly how you feel, once I was eating in front of tv and a special episode of worst of bear grylls was on, when he drank his own piss and ate bugs and did all those disgusting things. Ruined my meal completely

Many people have this habit of making sound while eating. I too cannot ignore this sound, but it doesn't bother me to the extent that I cannot sit with them and have my meals. I rather concentrate on my food and enjoy it thoroughly.
To start off with you can take one meal as per your convenience in front of tv or computer and try to take the other meal with your family. You just need to ignore the sound and concentrate on your food. Just think as if a child is sitting amongst you and munching his food. As a small child's eating habit doesn't irritate us likewise, your father's eating habit will not bother you.

Everything's actually ok until I actually hear that sounds, when my brain hears it and then I cannot exclude it out of my mind and it just continues to bother me, and then I try to take my mind off it but I just can't, I just get more nervous and nervous until I lose my appetite..

I feel very distracted when I hear noise of munching when I eat something. I mostly used to have omitting tendency when I hear them but In my company or in my home I have no one who eats so. So I feel good with them.
Do you have omitting tendency when you hear munching disturbances from others ?

well if I understand that word omitting ( to leave out) then yes, it happened to me a few times that I just couldn't stand it any more and just leave the table in the middle of lunch..sometimes it just bothers me so much that I can't get those sounds out of my head and I'm just distracted and I get nervous so I can't do anything..

Aww poor you...That means you have to learn to accept the annoying way people eat or you will have to eat alone all the time.Just try to talk to the others who eat with you (unless you hate people who talk when they eat ) that might help you not to stare at their annoying habits.Or just think about something else, like try to plan what you will do after you are done eating or what you will do tonight, tomorrow etc.
Happy Mylotting! :)
