Would you sign up for a site that holds all your passwords for easy access?

I've seen advertisements for websites that let you enter in ALL your passwords for various websites. Then you can get to any of these websites just by logging in to the "password tracker" website. The idea is that people have so many different passwords that they can't remember them all. Also many sites require special characters or numbers in your password, which makes them even harder to remember. What do you think about this? I have considered joining a site like this but I always come back to the concern that someone may break into the "password tracker" site and then they would have access to ALL my website accounts! So that is why I stay away. I think it is an ok idea, but really the reason for having various passwords around the web is so that if one account gets broken into, the rest are still secure. Then there is always the possibility that you leave yourself logged in to your password list and the next person at your computer sees all your passwords. I do hate having 10 million different website accounts and passwords to remember, but I think that it's more secure than storing all your passwords in one place. What would you do?

I wouldn't use a site like that. I prefer to keep my passwords in my day planner or in a handwritten notebook. I wouldn't feel comfortable if I knew that all of my passwords were avaiable on a website. In case someone get access to that account, they get access to everything on my computer, and I don't want to take that chance even though it sounds like an easy way to keep track of all the passwords. I find it hard to remember all the passwords, but I think that a handwritten notebook that I keep in my home is much safer.

A lot of people I know do this method of writing them down. It's hard to remember since there are so many websites out there that require passwords! I do take notes of my usernames and passwords offline, but to be safe I don't actually write the whole password. Usually I write the beginning of it, or a hint about it. Once I see that hint, I'll remember the whole thing because I have so many standard ones I use for sites that aren't that important, then I have a whole slew of passwords I use for more secure sites.

I think the very best way to keep the passwords is inside your head, but unfortuneately my memory is quite bad and I am a member of many different sites, so it is not possible for me to memorize all of my passwords. I have tried, but I forget some of them especially that sites that I don't use that often. I have memoried the most important ones like the ones I use for paypal and net banking. I keep my day planner in my bag and I would be afraid to write those passwords in day planner in case I lose my bag.

I would rather keep my passwords inside my head. If someone breaks into your house and they steal your notebook or day planner they have access to every single one of your accounts. Also if they steal your computer they will have access to your browsing history which could tell them where you have accounts and they will have a field day draining any financial information and money from you.

Its really important to make your password more secure. If you register in any website that is not secured, you should use a complex and different password.Never Forget that the owner of website has access to your All ins and outs of registration including password. Its an right giving by SQL database to the website owner.

Yes it is true that the web designers can see everything, so another good reason to keep passwords separate and different depending on the website.

Hi vivasuzi, I won't sign up any site that holds all my passwords is my answer to your question. I prefer not to enjoy the convenience for just to get easy access and give away my personal confidential. This is for the security of my personal document and privacy. It's a high risk as well to let others know our passwords to access account related to money matter Happy posting

I would not. What happens is the site goes off and then you cannot get on our password protected site? I know that many browsers like Chrome and Firefox have password keepers and I use them, but most financial websites work so that you have the id on one page and the password on another so the only way is to download a software and have the passwords kept on your flash drive. I use password dragon http://www.passworddragon.com/index.html that is available in a form that is easily accessible for Windows and Macs.

Here is what I did with my passwords ! I went into Yahoo mail, and on the tab for notebook, I typed all my passwords and what site they go to! This way when I need to remember a password I can go to any computer, pull up Yahoo mail, and then the notebook tab, and look up my password! But to be on the safer side, I typed my password in code, so that only I know what the code is, for instance, my password is P#! only I know what the P stands for, and what the #(number) stands for! I have about 34 passwords, to 34 different sites, and I can code each one and know what the password is! Also I stored them on a memory card, so that I can see them on a computer that is not online ! Also I made a copy on a sheet of paper, and have it hidden in a safe in my closet, just in case my computer breaks down, and I can't use it , nor the memory card! And this way I have all my passwords in one place,

I wouldn't signup for a site like that for the same reason as you cited. I don't really mind having to keep track of different passwords...as a matter of fact, I actually try to use different user names to have even more security. It seems like a small inconvenience compared to the possibility of having all your accounts compromised.

I do not know if such site is secure. In my case, I would rather have my password save safely and not online. Though the site may offer security, but who knows. There are a lot of secured sites getting hacked. Just imagine what would happen if someone will be able to get access of your account with all your passwords discovered. It will certainly be a disaster.

Hi! That idea look scary to me. It is just like let some stranger to hold my wallet which having all my money, my ATM card, my credit card, my ID card and many more. But if the owner of the site is really honest, then it might be fine, but still I will not join such a site to add risk my account and money. In order to memorize your username and password, you can setup a rule for yourself to create the username and password, at least it will be more systematic and easier for your to remember all your username and password on specific website.

i rather write it in a note than register in this kind of site. because if you give the password to the site, that's mean you give your password to the other, and they will capable to do something with your account.

I personally don't trust anybody I don't know in person so my answer is NO! everybody who tried to earn money from Internet have experienced negative side of Internet money making machine, they lose their time and money, someone more someone less. I would feel very uncomfortable to know that someone have all of my account passwords, bank, forums, blogs, earning sites etc. One day you want pass for some site and all you can see when you arrive on homepage is this message: HELLO, HI and GOODBYE. THANX FOR ALL THE FISH!

I don't like to sign up in such services, my friend. I don't rely on them. Better to have my own list of password and username in my note than to register into a website taking care of my password...it's not an assurance for me. Because we don't know the people inside the site...

Most newer model computers have the ability to use a master password. The computer software will remember all your passwords and you simply enter your one master password once each time you log in. I prefer to use this method because it is still self contained. You would have to have access to my computer and my master password in order to gain access to my passwords. If you choose to use such a service I definitely would not include the passwords to any of your financial accounts and I would make sure the password you use for those accounts does not match any of the passwords which you have registered with the service. The good thing about using a program to remember your passwords is that you can then take advantage of your computers function which will randomly produced passwords for you. The reason these random passwords are good is because they are not easily hacked or guessed because they are a random sequence of letters and numbers that in no way relate to your life. We would never be able to remember such passwords on our own but having a system to do it for us makes it possible.

I think you should write your passwords and accounts on a paper or notebook, because I think it is not secure that sharing password with an online platform.
