I'm on Nostalgia mode and I'm wondering if I am the only person here familiar with this uber depressing story. I think this is a French Novel published in 1878, during a time there is poverty in France. This Novel is Adapted in Anime for 3 times. I think the first one is "remi nobody's boy" It is aired in my country in the 90's. Its about boy in a circus, he plays harp as a monkey and 3 dogs dance and do tricks, he have an old man as a mentor. I remember this show is so depressing and miserable but its the only show I can watch during 8:am in the morning. the depressing episode where the dogs got eaten by wolves traumatized me as a kid. It's first remake is not aired my country. in early 2000's Its 3rd remake is aired in my country and its more popular, Remi is turned into a girl. The anime adaptations of this French Novel I think became popular in South east Asia. so I'm just being nostalgic.

Hi! The version I watched was the dubbed version in ABS-CBN where Remi was a girl. I remember one episode where I really shed tears because Remi was singing a very, very sad song. It was about her mother and her mother's love which she terribly misses. I can't remember much but I liked this anime because of the drama and everything.

The boy version i think is aired in the Philippines around early 90's but it is first released in 80's. I think the girl version is a huge hit in the Philippines cos of its themesong.

I don't know the cartoons, but I have read the book when I was a kid. There is an English translation available here : http://www.archive.org/stream/nobodysboysansfa25102gut/25102.txt I am not a great fan of Hector Malot. He tried to imitate Balzac, and he is quite good when he describes the upper middle classes of his time. Curiously only his novels for children -- "Romain Kalbris", "Sans Famille", "En Famille" -- are still commonly read today.

I remember my kids watch this remake but I cannot remember everything about this anime. I like cartoon movies/series- but very selective when it comes to anime. Not to mention "ghostfighter" which I become a fan of it

what version of this anime you get to watch? the boy versionor the girl version? In our country and Arabian countries, thegirl version is a hit, but it flops in Japan. I think thegirl version became popular inourcountry because of this theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uGPdZMO0QE&feature=related I remember this song got aired on the radio.(the tagalog version) ---- The novel where this anime came from is the proto-type of the "ako ang tunay mong ina" soap opera cliche. you should blame this novel for that cliche....

I will never forget the better version which is the boy version that made me cry almost everyday. Honestly. I love this show and I love my childhood. My childhood is awesome because of those beautiful shows, and beautiful music. it is very hard to know where to watch it online.

The boy version is created durng the 80's and aired on our country during the 90's. 80's anime are really hard to find, The girl version I think is available online but yeah the boy version is more dramatic, the characters have more likable personalities. Also the girl version altered too many stuff from the original material.
