Can you force yourself to enjoy cleaning?

I did a shift change for today so I found myself with a lot of time on my hands this morning. I live with my dad, who is not very tidy - and I hate to admit it - but I'm really not either. Sure, we both clean up after ourselves - after we cook and whatnot, but neither one of us ever puts time away to just CLEAN - the floors, the bathroom, whatever.
My sister is the total opposite. She is the human equivalent of Bree from Desperate Housewives! She can't stand seeing anything out of order and will tidy during 10 minutes of free time. What's even more weird is that she actually enjoys it.
I really don't. I find it to be a chore. A big hassle.
Can you force yourself to ENJOY cleaning & tidying?
If so....Help me out here ! LOL

I clean people's houses for a living, mostly eldery peoples houses, so yes you can force yourself to enjoy cleaning if you are going to get paid for it!!
But actually I do enjoy cleaning, I couldn't do a job that I didn't sort of enjoy. I do get fed up sometimes but you do that with any job you do.

What makes something "enjoyable" is the finished product or what you get with the finished product. In your case Anne18...you get a paycheck for your finished product. For others..it is just that "now I can find things" satisfaction and for others it is just "wow..this place looks nice without all the junk laying around"(and will be said with a smile on their face!) and for me..I guess it is just...if I want to live in a clean environment..I have to clean. And in my old age..I just can't stand the mess anyway!
Or you could got to the extreme and say "if I don't clean I am going to be on the next episode of Hoarders"...but those those people aren't hoarders..they are just filthy, lazy, trashy people that don't want to clean up after themselves!!!

since i love music i blare music and clean to the beat of the music. it seems to make things easier and go faster if you are listening to the music and singing along than thinking omg this scrubbing will never end!

I know it's a cliche, but watching Hoarders always makes me want to clean the house from top to bottom and throw out almost everything that isn't nailed down. I don't watch the show very often because it also grosses me out but pretty much every time I do I'm up and cleaning before it's even over. And I do enjoy it because it feels so much better when I'm done. Another thing that makes me really want to clean is being in a dirty house. If I'm at someone's house and their bathroom is filthy it's guaranteed that I'm scrubbing all of ours when I get home and enjoying every minute of it, lol.

I can't say I enjoy cleaning as well, but I can't stand a mess too. And since I couldn't ask my kids (even though I try) to clean, the job of cleaning always falls on my lap.
I know that I get irritated when I finally decide to clean up something, and I realize after I've started that the job is actually bigger than I initially thought.
Hate it!

First off, I commend your sister for feeling and doing the right thing! If not, you would be the untidy family. No offense meant.
She understands balance. If she won't do it, who will? See, I understand that there are things in life that we enjoy doing while other people don't. In my case, it really depends on my mood. If I am too tired during the day, don't expect me to smile and feel good and go wash the dishes (common in the Philippines - most of us don't have a dishwashers machine). I mean, instead of laying around during my free time. I just think of using it wisely by doing the things I enjoy most. I can also relate to your sister. I just can't stand a messy environment. Trust me, I can go by it sometimes but it freaks me out.
Think of it this way: While working on the floor using your vacuum cleaner, you're also working your limbs. It's a fun and the cheapest way to work out! Sweating off is a good thing and I consider it a blessing! hahaha
Good luck!

Tiding, cleaning are my favorites job. I never feel forced myself to enjoy cleaning and tiding as well. I didn't know my eyes could see the stuff uncleaned, the food strewn everywhere because I felt was not nice to present things in a mess. I just wanna directly to pick them and put in a proper place. Why not ?

Sometimes we have to force ourself CLEANING. I have to make clean the books and place it in order, otherwise I found no place to keep my books to read in the table.

no, i can't force myself to enjoy cleaning and tidying, infact, i can find a lot of excuses to get away doing it. once i did it, when i felt so down and really has nothing to. i managed to clean the whole house but i did not enjoy it. i was absent minded doing it. but the house got really clean, and my mom was like, praying and thanking god, as if a miracle had happened. lol!

I can't think of a way to force yourself into liking to clean. I myself just likes to sit around and let others do it for me. but there are times that I end up cleaning the house, and what i do, i just listen to my favorite up beat music and i seem to get the work done.
you should try it maybe it will work for you.
cheers

I also have a sister who is Bree and she's always cleaning the house, especially when she's in PMS. Me on the other hand, I never tidy anything. I just think that's not worth my time. But sometimes when I have a lot of free time, I just plug on some music I love to listen to and start cleaning my room. It can be fun, because you'll be surprised what all funny stuff can you find. Everytime I clean my closet and shelves I find old photos, photo albums, letters and toys I used to play with, so it occupies me for a while and then I end up cleaning up for 15 minutes and looking at all those photos and remembering my whole past and childhood so it can be fun to clean your room or your appartment actually. Try it out!

Definitely not. I really hate washing dishes, even if it means keeping the kitchen clean. Nothing would really motivate me to enjoy doing stuffs I don't like. But it doesn't mean I'm not doing it(washing of soiled dishes, huh), the fact is, I'm washing our dishes everyday - with a heavy heart of course.Though, there are things in life we don't expect, still they happen - whether we like it or not. Same with cleaning, whether we like it or not, we have to do it, else, we will be living in a one - mess place..

Hi.. The answer to your question is 'Yes' according to me. If the results of cleaning could please your eyes and your visitor's eyes, you will definitely start enjoying the cleaning process!! You will not realize the importance of cleaning unless a stranger or a visitor or your close friend sarcastically points about your way of living. We as human beings ought to show some difference from animals or the ancient tribals.
It is nothing but a habit. It will take some time for us to acquire the habit of maintaining our surroundings. I was like you. Now, that I am getting married and so have to gradually change this way.

Cleaning is simple. If it involves physical strength, have rest or eat meal then slowly do the job until it is finished. When you found out, not even 3 hours has passed and you have no more left to clean. If there is clutter, take some to the trash and return the others to proper place. As long as I take my shirt off I can do sweaty work but when seen naked I think twice cleaning around.

I have no choice but to force myself to clean on weekends, because it's the only time to clean our bedroom as well as some parts of the house my MIL leaves for me to clean.
But , i do always do it in an enthusiastic manner, because i like the feeling of seeing the places i cleaned afterward. Besides, it's an exercise for me, after days of just sitting and typing in the office for the whole weekdays.

Yes, I can force myself in cleaning since I'm a housewife, a working mom too. I really have to do all the chores and have to force myself especially when I'm bit lazy, I also sometimes become tired of following the mess of my husband and baby, you know a baby ages 1 year has a lot of mess when it comes to toys. I have to put them back to where it should be. It's a tedious work actually being a housewife.
