Indian parliament has been stalled for more than a week after the winter session began. But with both government and opposition parties not showing any flexibility, no truce seems possible.
Opposition insists it is govt responsibility to run parliament. Govt on other hand, say without full cooperation of opposition parties they can't do much.
This has meant parliament's precious time has been lost, resulting in huge losses to exchequer and important legislation getting stuck in parliament.
For some time now, parliament paralysis has become a norm with adjournments routine matter. On top of it, Members of parliament are quick to double their salaries, give themselves huge perks while doing no work.
So, do you feel non functioning parliamentarians n legislators deserve to be paid such fat salaries? How can such leaders be taken to task? Do share your views. Thank you.

The irony of the whole thing is that these people vote to give themselves an increment. That is how funny it is. For that session everyone was in on time and voted in favor of the salary increment. For all other topics, they keep calling walkovers and stalling the functioning in the parliament.
Unfortunately, this is the sad statement of our democracy and we are equally to blame for voting these guys to power.
Cheers!

Yes Ram, I agree. We also need to take part of blame for electing and reelecting such leaders time and again. Sad thing is politicians come election time are good in whipping sentiments of people and are easily able to divide them using caste, regional and religion cards when we swayed by emotions fall in their trap. Like a vicious cycle it continues.
But we need to stay optimistic. People now want development and have started to vote for change. So, hopefully if we can keep up the pressure, we can better the system if not totally make them accountable. Thanks for sharing your views. Cheers!

I share your sentiments. But violence is no solution. The man is mentally sick, has history of roughing of corrupt leaders. We need not make heroes out of them.
Yes, people are frustrated. Quite understandably so. It is high time we start becoming aware and start taking interest in active politics. So, right people join politics, get popular support and ensure accountability to people.

It is a very common sight in democracies but in India particularly this is a very common sight. In India whatever government do whether it is right or wrong opposition always want to oppose it. As a result parliament is stalled for weeks or months. In my view parliamentarians salaries should be based on no work and no pay. One more reason is that in India majority of the parliamentarians are uneducated. They dont know what is right and what is wrong.

Yes, there needs to be mechanism to make our parliamentarians accountable to people. So, they start working for the country and not for their parties. They don't mind obstructing parliament for days, playing games while tax payers money is being wasted and common man continues to suffer. More than education, they need to be sensitized to needs of masses.
