What Do You Do To Relieve Restless Leg Syndrome?

I have restless leg syndrome. Needless to say it can be very annoying and sometimes painful. One just doesn't know what to do with their legs at times. To me it feels like spasms. I have to get up and walk around, stand or move my legs constantly. I have to find something to do to keep my mind off of my legs and if the spasms happen while I am in bed, needless to say I don't get any sleep. I find if I go on the computer and play some games to keep my mind off of my legs that it might relieve the symptoms in an hour or so. Placing a bar of soap between the sheets on my bed helps, this was suggested by my Doctor and it works, but not all of the time. She does not know why it helps, she just knows that her patients say it helps. When I started using the soap I had my first full night of sleep in months. Using a hair brush to scratch my legs also helps, it helps to desensitize them. As they get very sensitive to the touch of clothes, blankets, human touch, bumping them. I scratch my legs, feet, toes, soles of my feet, the heels, sides, etc. I keep doing this until my legs are no longer sensitive to the touch of the brush. Soaking in the bathtub and rubbing my legs and feet with a washcloth or back brush also can help to relax the legs. When I can't get the legs to desensitize, then I just wear shorty pajamas, so no fabric is touching my legs. When in bed, I make sure my feet and legs are sticking out from under the blankets and the touch of the blankets can trigger a spasm. Share with everyone the tips you use to alleviate restless leg syndrome.

I have asked you to be my friend as I haven't long started a discussion about putting a bar of soap at the bottom of the bed, in my case it just doesn't work and I was still getting cramp in the middle of the night. I have to get out of bed and walk around the room. I found out the cause of my cramp was eating crap food after tea. So I now ten d to eat nothing after tea nad I found a cup of horlicks relaxes me. Hope we can be friends as we have this in common

Really, where do you purchase something like that. Sounds great. I see our friendship request is still pending as I just went over to your profile and that is what it said. Well I am off to town to pick up a few things that are needed. Enjoy your day Anne.

Thank you for your comment Anne. I leave the bar of soap between the sheets all the time. I figure it helps maybe a little bit if not a lot. Like I said before it does not always work. In fact I have been having problems the last few nights, so I guess it is time to change the bar of soap. I used Dove this last time, I have had that one there for several months and it has worked the best so far. You might want to try a different kind of bar of soap. I never heard of horlicks it sounds like something herbal or all natural. I am not into tea as it reminds me of hay/alflafa (the smell) But, if I doctor it up with lemon and honey, etc., it is not bad. Looking forward to reading your discussions. Thank you for the friend request. Keep in touch. Have a nice day.

Have you talked to your doctor about Mirapex? My mom and I both used to take it for Restless Leg Syndrome and it worked well.

My doctor told me that prescription medications for RLS are very expensive. We can not afford any expensive prescriptions. But, thank you for the information. Are you and your Mom still taking Mirapex? Have a nice evening.

You do not have health insurance? I no longer take it because my RLS has gotten better although I jerk a lot. My mom is no longer on it because she has dementia (she's 52) and she is up and down constantly no matter what kind of medicine they give her.

I am glad to hear that you RLS has gotten better. I didn't know the medication could do that. To me it seems the RLS goes into remission for awhile and then comes back again. Sorry to hear that you Mom has dementia. My Mother had Plzheimier's and Parkinson's, so I can totally understand. I know my Mom had problems as well with her legs, etc. Have a nice day.

I am so sorry you have to suffer with this...it has got to be irritating to no end. I have something like that but not quite. I feel like something is crawling under my skin....but it doesn't keep me from sleeping. I also use the bar of soap thing and it helps. I used to have cramps all the time but started taking potasium as I am on a water pill...that has helped alot.
