How can you be a salt of the earth?

You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its saltiness, How can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. (Matthew 5:13)
We are the salt of the earth, salt means we give flavor. How can we give flavor if we are compromising to the word of God and does not do what He commanded us to do?... If we give flavor, we will stop corruption in any area of our life... We must not let to lose our flavor or else we're to be thrown and trampled underfoot....
What can you share about this passage?

Well, we just discussed about this passage a week ago in our religion class... what a coincidence. 
I think I can be the salt of the earth by being a good example to others and following God's teachings, also guide otehrs and spread Good News.

here in Australia that saying is just used to say that a person is the best, as if someone is known to be a really good person , helps people is liked by everyone,one way we describe such a person is to say they are the salt of the earth...don't really know why they say that but it is something to think about.
