Day before yesterday, the bank in my city, where I have an account since its beginning 50 years ago, held a ‘Special Costumer Meet’, I was invited there along with other senior citizens; it was grand occasion, the celebration started with welcome lecture by the senior most officers, followed by cultural programmers’, song dance etc. I too lectured, advised new things that should be introduced by the bank, also highlighted about some defects they still have and we face. There were snacks, high tea, dinner etc; I went there at 7pm came home at 10pm, only problem was getting up the 200 steps to the roof of the Regional office of the bank, where it was organized. I got much pain in feet after coming home, but I want to keep myself engaged. Do you have such meetings organized by your bank, do you enjoy participating there? Please respond and share your valued opinion. Thanks in advance. Professor ‘Bhuwan’. . Cheers have a lucky day ahead. 2/12/2011

Our bank has never had anything like this that I know about. However, I wouldn't change the bank that we are using for the world. The reason that I say this is because of the fact that we've been banking with them through the entire financial crisis and because of the fact that they are a small, local bank, we haven't had to deal with bailouts and such that many people here have had to deal with. Besides that, their customer service is phenomenal.

Hello Professor. I am glad that you enjoyed yourself with other people invited to the Special Costumer Meet. I had a similar experience in 2002 when I went back to my hometown for the summer vacation. I received an invitation from one of the housing agency for a meeting and a nice dinner and then later we were introduced about those houses to be sold. It was because of the invitation that I decided to buy an apartment of my own. And since then my family have been living in it with great pleasure. Thanks for sharing with us your pleasant life experience. Take care, Professor.

I’ve never heard of a bank doing such a thing that was such an interesting thing to share and I think it is nice to see your picture too, how it enable me to understand where this discussion is coming from. I can understand maybe a coop engaging socially with lectures but banking for me has never been very gregarious.. I’ve talked socially with my bank manager but it was just on a personal level. Banking I’ve found is usually very cold business like.

Good to know that you had a good time at the bank and also got an opportunity to advise the bankers. None of the Banks that I have had accounts in have had such programs. Hope you leg is better now and you are feeling rested.

200 sounds like allot of steps. So there was no elevator? I'm sorry you had a tuff time of it and then you got sore from all that climbing steps. It sounds like it was a fun event. I want to go to some fun events. It seems most things cost money. I don't look so good anymore so I can't get myself to go to anything like that. I don't have money to get my hair fixed, I don't have money to buy any good clothes and shoes and to get my hair done. I'm such a whiner but it's true.

What! 200 steps on the staircase? Dont they have a Lift? I guess even if they have one it would have been the "power cuts" reasoning. I felt bad reading this line though because it was supposed to be a Senior and Privileged Members meet. The good thing I found here was the fact that they held such a meet and offered snacks and tea as it was quite a long meet. Was mam too along with you? I hope not as it would have been more painful - the 200 stairs - for her. I hope the meet turns out with some implementations of the things at the bank's branch as Sambalpur is a better place with good people.

Hi professor2010! I do attended an organized meeting but not by bank. It's a cooperative group that I have account since 1995. I'm a coop member for 16 years now. The last time we had a meeting was last Nov. 26. It was a special thanks-giving meeting because the problem that our coop was facing recently were solved. We deposited big amount of our money in a rural bank that nearly to declare bankrupcy. Due to some good solutions and appealing we got back our millions of peso deposit in that said rural bank. Well, that's another story. The meeting was held inside a mall where our coop office is located. It started with a mass at 9am. We had am snack there, lunch, pm snack, just water for the drink... and the meeting. We talked about the status of our coop,.. the nearly miss,.. the ups and down,.. the needs,.. our product (we had a gas station and a savings deposit),.. the questions and answers,.. suggestions,.. anything we can raise... no boundary! It ended at 5pm with a 500 pesos giftcheck to those member who finished the day. Yes, I got the P500 GC :) By the way, just an info, our cooperative group was started driven by our company, that although our company opted for a recession in our country 3 years ago, we decided to continue it until now. All members of this coop are ex-employee only of our then US based company. And I'm glad our coop is still standing high and proud until now! Thanks goodness!

yes. recently in my bank branch -- where i have my accounts -- they opened an ATM counter and the manager shared details about that incident. Senior citizens and old customers were invited. I have conducted many such meetings as manager of different bank branches when I was in service in bank.
