I bought 1GB RAm recently , after I incerted it in my PC it shows only 512 MB. I have contacted with the dealer and they have checked & confirmed that itr has 1GB capacity. After that I have reduced my shared memory to 64 MB and Apeture size to 64 MB but hasn't found any solution. Can anyone guide me to the solution ?

Well I think your motherboard not supported reading in more than 512mb (each 1 bank slot). Make sure each Dimm have same manufacture to decrease instability system. Try using a memory 1 GB that has the IC in front and behind the memory board.

That might be reason so I will have to upgrade my motherboard to get it solved.

This is actually my experience, because I have a new and old computer and every dimm slot having maximum size of RAM (it's locked by motherboard). Which I can remember there a tools for checking, but the problem is I don't have that software anymore. Thank you for BR!

A part of the memory is probably reserved to graphic memory mapping -- the on-board memory of your graphic card --, and it reduces the amount of memory available for the system.

Yes it is true but the 50% of the RAM should not be used in that purpose. As I have told above I have set the shared memory and the memory used for the grafics to very lower level.

I can't disable the shared video memory on my netbook. It is only possible on a desktop with a separate video card in a PCI slot. I put a value of the quarter of my RAM size for the graphics aperture size on my BIOS desktop, but I am not sure this parameter is useful for today's cards and has a real effect : you can try to disable it and see if it changes something, but I doubt.

There can be some minor problems. either your RAM is not properly inserted or it's bad.. if you have 2 RAM sticks then Try removing the 2nd stick and then reinsert it. Make sure that if you have 4 memory slots that you are only using the #1 & #2 slots with two sticks. You can also try installing only only one stick in the 1st slot and see if the pc recognizes it. try with second and remove first.. If it doesn't than you may have gotten a bad stick.

I sure wish I knew what to tell you. I have done the very same thing and had the same problem with it. I now have a new computer because the other one stopped working right.

I also think you should pull out the RAM modules and reinsert them.Sometimes one doesn`t make a good contact with the mainboard.Try it,be careful and probably this will solve your problem.
