Scientists are starting to be concerned about the fact that incessant tweets, texts, facebook updates and other non-essential internet surfing are causing long term problems for young people's brain development and causing disruption and short term memory for old people. What do you think about their assessment?

I am a little concerned about the scientists who seem to have so little to do and maybe can't find funding for more important issues than such a study. Please share your view on my comment. It is ok to disagree. I think the comment answered the question about assessment as well?

From my own point of view, i will say they are still doing their jobs as scientists since part of scientist job is to make research and find solutions to problems. This study is of importance because it provides people with information of the effects of too much tweeting and surfing. At least since you now know the result of your actions, if there is any problem, you will remember you have been warned. After all, it is always said that excess of everything is bad.

I meant there may be a justification for example not having a suitable social life as that might have a bad effect on a persons growth or for mental stimulation. I aggree with everything in moderation.
If people are not getting the proper stimulation in their life in general then yes I suspect that could have negitive effects. As for computer use though in that case is it not like the chicken or the egg? I am trying to understand how “texting” which is a creative pursuit might be affecting a person adversely?
Where would I look for an article or search for ??... thanks for making this a discussion.

Yes, I definitely agree. This is also the reason I appreciate myLot as it gives participants the opportunity to think and share their opinions and thoughts on various topics of interest aside from the earnings opportunity. For a Filipino like, myLot enables me to express myself in another language and improve my typing skills.
