Is santa clause real?

They said santa lived at north pole? because i am not from there i didn't see him. Is he real? who is he? why is he so famous when Christmas come? What is really the essence of Christmas to you?

I think alot of aspects of Santa are based on St. Nicholas but Santa is the commercial version that to me does not have much meaning behind it. A site with alot of good information is http://www.stnicholascenter.org/pages/home/ there are lots of stories of St. Nicholas and comparisons to Santa Claus ect. And honestly I prefer to celebrate St. Nick's (December 5th) more than Christmas, I feel he stood for something good and people should take heed to his legacy.
