There goes one hand ...

Its been a while since my senior manager discussed about the company goals and objectives for the upcoming quarter! Once he was done with pin-pointing various issues we've been facing with the client projects ... On a serious note,he wanted to know if we had questions for him by the end of the meeting ... there goes one hand into the air in no time Our manager asks this colleague of mine to go ahead ... Its seems he's been facing some problems with his drawer(rack) and he wants our senior manager to sort that out at the earliest! Wooooooooooow such an important query he had ... we all had a nice laugh. Does that question shows his disrespect for the manager? If you ask me ... it wasn't a good question to pose especially when our senior manager was addressing the meeting! What you folks think about it ?

Well...I think it probably lightened the mood, but I'm not so sure I would have asked that at that particular time. I guess it would greatly depend on the relationship that the manager had with the team. The manner in which it was asked can greatly reflect disrespect or not too.

Before i say any further, you miss Jenin look damn pretty on that blue couch with your closed eyes From what i remember you have one teenage daughter, right? I wonder how beautiful she is gonna be on any given day ? As of your response, should i say that my senior manager was in a nice mood to have overlooked my colleagues concern.

That sounds rather strange. Well, it is one way to attract attention, but maybe not the right kind of attention. Maybe falling asleep in the meeting would be about the same?

Yeppers, slow here too. Just got back from one trip and heading out on another in a week or so. Going to spend the holidays near Las Vegas. No gambling for me though. Just eating and lots of people watching, lol. What about you?

From the employees point of view - Of course. A little humor is always great while at work... I believe most of them have been stressed out during those kind of discussions From the employer's/manager's point of view - Heck! if this employee wasnt good enough... I would have shown him the right way Well, on the lighter sides of course, a little humor is always welcome

What if the employee was not trying to be funny, though? What if he or she had a real issue with the equipment, had addressed it previously and nothing had been done, so was now addressing it in the meeting hoping that this would bring more attention to the situation and get it corrected? I don't know how important this equipment is to the job, but if it was important and affecting his or her work performance, then I think it would be important enough to be addressed at the meeting.

That's a good one. It breaks the tense atmosphere after the meeting, allowing everybody to have a good laugh over it. That's the kind of colleague i would love to have working together. They are the ones who relaxes the atmosphere just when our stress level gets too high. It takes a person who knows the balance in life to go along with his level, and i'm sure your senior manager doesn't mind. After all, it's a query to his question. It's fun.

Lol.. That's really funny one.. Surely its not a query he should raise during important meetings. But may be he got fed up with it too much that he just couldn't stop him self. I wonder what your senior manager reply to his query... Solved or got increased ??

My senior manager shoved that question off ... my colleague found a nice way to mess up with his own growth in an organization.

As a member of senior management for many years, I welcomed questions like this So many times it's the little day by day irritations that frustrate workers, it can change a good job being done into one composed of stress that could be easily eliminated. Senior management when alerted to these small irritations would much rather face them then have them corrupt their work force. If I was that manager I would have suggested a written request from anyone who had equipment which needed attention and then set up someone else to manage these complaints. I would reassure people that I would oversee that manager because I know how frustrating it is to have to work with furniture or equipment that doesn't work right.

Like I said above, I guess that it would depend upon how important the drawer or rack was in doing his job not to mention whether or not he had requested it be fixed before and not gotten any results. If he had a serious concern about this as it was affecting his job performance and people laughed at him, then I do not think that would be good. On the other hand, if it is not really an important issue and does not affect his job performance, then it should have waited until a later time ... he could have even pulled the manager off to the side after the meeting and asked the manager in private.
