disappointing internet and landline connection!

I've been using this connection for years. At times, I can hear crickets on my line. On the other, it's totally dead. I have changed the unit for more than three times already but nothing has really changed.
Internet connection is also on and off. Sometimes, we don't have it for almost a week. I pay them fully on time and I'm not getting the service that I deserve!
What can you guys suggest? What connection or company you know that gives better service?

You mentioned landline, so I'm guessing your connection is dial-up. Dial-up is just about obsolete. You need to go broadband.
After years of being on dial-up, I went cable modem the beginning of this year when it finally became available in my area. With developing technology and the extra bells and buzzers websites and web services use today, the data just cannot be transported fast enough, if at all (I used to time out all the time), through a phone line anymore.

Poor internet connection will always ruin our days. That is why we have to choose the right provider. Can you tell us what connection you're using and what other options you have? then we will be able to be specific on the matter ^^

You have not mentioned your country but if you are from India don't buy the connection from BSNL or MTNL . Go for private service providers they gives good service.
