Christmas is near and ham will be very common on the christmas table.I'm wondering if anyone has ever made their own ham in their own home.Anyone can share their ideas and experience on making one.How hard is it to make? does it really take few days to cure the hind legs of the pork? What if i don't have a smoker?

I know how to make homemade ham but I don't know how to make a homemade ham if you don't have a smoker so i suggest you just buy a frozen one in the market.Anyways making one eats a lot of time so you can just devote the time into making some stuffs of your specialty.. :-D

I love to cook, but I would never try to do something so difficult. I have realised that I enjoy only what I can do that it is within my power. Somking ham sounds more than what I would dare to start. Take care!

Hello pepai and welcome to mylot. I have never tried to make a ham. I have done some research and it seems that there are two ways to do it. One is smoking and that takes months and the other is to soak the ham in a salt brine in the fridge. You also have to use a fresh ham. Here are some web sites that tell how to do it. I think I might try it some time.

I haven't tried curing or smoking ham, and I don't think I would. I feel it's a complicated thing :) And like you, I don't even have a smoker. I do however tried making my own beef or pork jerky as well as bacon cured with salt only. That's about it though. My busy schedule seems to be a hindrance to making my own food :)

the smoker is really the weirdest and hardest stuff to get stuff if you don't cure meat that much...
