No you should not overrate other people's ideas. Since these are their ideas and they are not you! Some advice or decicions may work great for you as well but it's not said so.
So the best thing you can do is get the information you need, as much as possible. For that other people are great since they all have different point of views. Make a list of that and ask yourself what will work for you, in your special case with the special person you are.
Taking a decision means you will always take some risks. This is normal, nothing wrong with that, it's impossible always to play on safe. See it as a game/life experience. Even if it did not work you at least thought it over and gave it a try!

Making decisions that affect others in a family is seldom easy. I think the best way to arrive at a good decision is for you to first evaluate the issue and arrive at a decision. Then you should convince yourself that is a proper decision. Next, ask for the input of other people affected by the decision, and then contemplate all of the ideas on your own. Keep an open mind, and compare the suggestions of others to your decision, and see if maybe their ideas are better, or can be incorporated into what you have decided. Finally, discuss your conclusion with the others, and convince them why your solution would be best. Ultimately, you want the action that would affect people the least while providing the most benefit.
Good luck to you!
