Here in Bicol, our food specialties are , Bicol Express , Pinangat , Guinobatan longganisa and pilinuts. Pilinuts are made into different styles of pastries and candies. Some can be salty and some cane be sweet. In some posh restaurants chefs would make them into pili pumpkin soup, pili rum crepe and pili stuffed chicken. It’s indeed a versatile delicacy of Bicol.
But I was surprised that it was shown on TV, that in Davao, one of the specialty now is the Buwayang Lechon . One lechon of it could cost PhP20,000.00 to PhP30,000.00. Wow, how expensive. I have no wish to taste it. However, Davao is also known for its durian and Davao pomelo.
In Tayabas, Quezon, their food specialty is the Pinaes na Hipon. Hmm, I like that one.
So guys, do you know the food specialties of your provinces?

Yes I'm from Davao and I just know Durian and pomelo are popular here. I didn't hear about Buwayang Lechon it sounds scared to me :D . Actually I've been there in Bicol last October 2009. I love pilinuts there and hot dishes. How I wish I can visit there next year so then I will buy lots of pilinuts:D

But since you are in Davao, you have the chance of tasting "lechon buwaya". I think it's in those crocodile farms that they do that.
It's nice to hear that you have been in Bicol and have tasted pilinuts and hot dishes. Yes, it's not only Bicol Express that is spicy, but almost all dishes of Bicolanos have small chili in them, to make them hot.

hi simplyd^^
i know bicol express and have eaten it few times, and ofcourse pilinuts (which is a bit expensive haha) but i don't know the others you mentioned for Bicol specialties.
...and buwayang lechon (roasted crocodile) hmmmm...i wanna try that if you don't haha . actually i saw, a survival series in American TV before on which i cannot remember the title, they had no food but finally managed to catch a crocodile and butchered it. the participants just loved the taste and were asking if they can find/buy crocodile meat in restaurants. i heard it taste just like chicken but juicier..
oh and by the way, "Pinikpikan" is the specialty in Baguio(Benguet or Cordillera). It is a chicken soup similar to the "Tinola" but using hot water to dress the chicken, it is slowly burned in a fire--which makes the taste special. then some cook their "Pinikpikan" with "etag" or salted and preserved meat.

Well, at least you have tasted some of Bicol's specialties. Yes, pilinut candies and pastries are abit costly. But you can buy those in small packets. They're cheaper that way, and get to taste a variety.
So, i presume you are from Baguio, that's why you have tasted "pinipikan"? I know that it's a delicious specialty since it's chicken meat. I love all chicken meat recipes.

So, the "sukang pinakurat" is from your place. I like it and so is my husband , specially as "sawsawan" (dipping) for chitcharon and dried squids and dries fishes.
What is dudol and amik , my friend?

Hi simplyD! you made me feel hungry! yumyum! :)
I am from Davao and of course yes I've heard about the lechon buwaya. I think this is catered by Crocodile Park. They have their resto there that serves sizzling croco, adobong croco and other croco menu. :) I only have tried it once, the sizzling croco, and I think will not be able to try again. Not because it is not delicious, but because it is expensive! lol! but yes, croc meat taste like chicken but it's tastier. you can view their menu here: http://riverwalk.psdgroupph.com/index.ph?sec=2&idpage=47.# i am not sure if it's updated. and i think the lechon is just for special orders.
you already mentioned about durian and pomelo... durian candies are also the best selling "pasalubongs" from here.

Maybe i would want to have a taste of a crocodile menu, if i will not be told that it's oroc meat. Just the thought of a croc would give me an impression of it smelling like a fish.
Yes, you are right. Durian and its candies are one of the specialties of Davao. But i like eating Durian , the fruit , more.
